At the beginning of the 2006 season, East Lake High School's baseball field was dedicated to the program's former head coach, Lee Byers. Lee Byers Field was named in honor of Coach Byers' 33 years of coaching in Pinellas County, the last 14 as the leader of the Eagles.
Under Coach Byers' direction, East Lake earned its first District Championship in 1991. His career highlights include over 533 career wins and a trip to the 2002 5A State Championship game. That 2002 team finished with an overall record of 30-5, and is recognized as the best team in school history.
