Team Guidelines
Welcome to all the players and their families to the 2001 outdoor soccer season! All of our players have experienced the next important step in their education, high school. As a teacher and parent, I understand the complexity of juggling schedules to accomodate the "student" and the "athlete". It is important to emphasize the idea of balance in a child's life. School and soccer make excellent partners as long as that balance is maintained.
Soccer is a wonderful game and when you have a team as close as we do on the Fox Chase Freedom, it makes the experience extra special! I hope you are feeling the same excitement that I am regarding the upcoming season. As the coach of the team I would like to extend an invitation to all players and parents to maintain open lines of communication with myself and Mr. Johnson. There is no such thing as an unimportant concern or an unwelcome suggestion.
There are a couple of items that are necessary to be brought to your attention as the season begins.
First, if you'd like to contact me via email, my email address is...wsteinkehoo@yahoo.com.
1. We are opening the season with 16 girls on the team roster. We will be playing with 11 girls on a standard size soccer field. Ball size is #5. All girls will need soccer spikes and shin guards. This year, the club will provide NEW team jerseys, shorts and socks.
2. Practice is held every Thursday from 8 - 9:30 at Fox Chase Rec.
3. The team will be competing in the always tough Intercounty soccer league. The regular season determines the league champion. There are NO LEAGUE PLAYOFFS.
4. Arrival at games needs to be 45 minutes prior to the scheduled start time to allow for proper warm-up and discussion of player position assignments. Water needs to be brought to the game by each player. If a player if unable to attend a game, notification would be appreciated as soon as possible.
5. During the game players, parents and other spectators are expected to maintain restraint regarding their conduct. Only the coach will make discussion with the referees. LEAGUE RULES MANDATE THE EXPULSION OF PLAYERS AND SPECTATORS DIRECTING COMMENTS TOWARD THE OFFICIALS AS WELL AS MONETARY FINES FOR THE CLUB.
6. After the game a brief meeting with the coach and players will be held and will last no more than 10 minutes.
7. If transportation proves to be the only problem for a player preventing attendance at a game, please call the coach and he will find a way to get the player to the game. EVERY PLAYER HOLDS SPECIAL IMPORTANCE ON THE TEAM. PLEASE STRIVE TO MAKE EVERY GAME.
8. Parents are asked to provide a post-game beverage or a snack for the players. A snack schedule is posted on the season schedule.
9. All players are encouraged to assist with additional team expenses by participating in the team's fundraiser.
10. We are planning to play in the 2007 United Junior Columbus Cup Tournament at Parkwood Soccer Club. More details will follow.
11. This year as the players progress through high school, some may set their sites on playing college soccer. To that end, we will attend a couple of local college matches this fall. Just by watching a higher level of play, there are valuable insights to be gained into the game of soccer. Every player, family and friends are invited to participate!
This is our SEVENTH TEAM ANNIVERSARY playing together as the Freedom! It is important that we all be on the same page concerning team expectations. The coach's first priority is the same as the first day we came together as a team. First and foremost is that all the girls learn the game of soccer and improve their level of skill from where it currently is. To concentrate too heavily on winning is to set ourselves up for disappointment. While winning is certainly the preferred outcome, experience has proven it only comes as a result of playing as a team. Please be patient and stress to your player that improving skills and playing as a team are what will make winners of each and every one of the girls!
Here's to another great season.
Fox Chase Freedom...continues to ROCK!
