GDWL Hall of Fame 2003 inductees...
Okay, this is how we do it. We vote for players to go into the hall of fame, the 3 players with the most votes are inducted. Players that are inducted do not have to be retired.
2003 inductees:
Josh "Funky Green" Smith - Green Bears
Greg "Chester" Sowards - Green Bears
Kevin White - Vipers
Info on the Hall of Famers:
Player description of Josh "Funky Green" Smith:
Josh Smith has been the most organized player in the league. He has team practices when games are cancelled, built this site, invented & wrote the rulebook, contracts, etc. He is one of the founders of the G.D.W.L. & continues to play. Although he hasn't won a player of the month award yet, his career continues to be successful, with a 3-0 pitching record, a save, & a homerun (inside the ballpark). He had the idea of having music playing while playing games. He said "...that it takes some pressure off of yourself while you're playing." He also had the idea of not rushing into the season, but to have a spring training to warm up, organize & prepare for the regular season. To see Josh "Funky Green" Smith's stats go to Other stats/Awards list & click on the drop-bar & go to player stats.
Player description of Greg Sowards:
Greg Sowards has a confident but not arrogant approach to the game, which brings him most of his success in the game. He is a dependable cluth player in the tense & close games. Also, as a accurate pitcher, he is an all-around player that plays good defense & excellent offense. Greg Sowards is the best player in the league that isn't a founder of the league. Invited & recruited by best friend, Josh Smith, Sowards found one of his talents & passions. He found his home with Smith's team, the G.D.W.L. Green Bears. Greg Sowards deserves to go into the hall of fame. To see Greg "Chester" Sowards player stats, go to Other stats/Awards list, click on the drop-bar & click on player stats.
Player description of Kevin White:
Kevin's style of playing hasn't changed at all since he started his baseball career, he's a laid back, care-free player who plays for fun & to have a good time. Some of the most fun whiffleball games wouldn't have been fun without Kevin being there. He brings the fun back into the game that can be lost in arguements, or getting beat by the opposing team. He fits in with the other two hall of famers, he's goofy & loves to have fun. Although he's only played one career game since the G.D.W.L. started, he did marvelous. He's one of only two players in the league who hasn't signed a contract, but he'll play for anybody, no matter if the teams were uneven or if he was the only one on the team, that's what we love about him. That's why he's in the hall of fame. To see Kevin White's career stats, by now you should know where to go.

GDWL Hall of Fame 2004 inductees
This is how it works, If you're not familiar with how we decide who gets into the hall of fame. First of all, you're only inducted once, (you'd be surprised how many dummies think that you get reinducted). Every member of the GDWL gets 3 votes, (not voting for the same person more than once), everyone casts their votes, & the top 3 get in the hall of fame. Sounds simple enough.
This year's nominees:
Jen Elkins William "Killer" Held Matthew "Hollywood" Thornton
Katherine "Fashionably Late" Held Les "Big Daddy" Milam Jr.
Ryan "Rhino" Hale Greg "The Polish Wonder" Szepelak
& Justin "Big J" Bailey
*2003 inductees not nominated b/c they are already in hall of fame.
Winners:
William "Killer" Held (Vipers)
Matthew "Hollywood" Thornton (Vipers)
Katherine "Fashionably Late" Held (G. Bears)
Greg "The Polish Wonder" Szepelak (former Kung Fu Panda, now a Green Bear)
Les "Big Daddy" Milam Jr. (obligated to the G. Bears)
*there was a tie between hollywood, fash., the polish wonder, & big daddy for 2nd, so they all were inducted.
Congrats to each one who was inducted [scroll further for hall of famer profiles].
Hall of Fame profile for :
William "Killer" Held (Vipers)
William "Killer" Held has been having a phenomenal season, winning June POTM and improving his offensive skills (minus his menacing, picky, watchful, 'Joe Dimagio' eye). He's the only player that is capable of running effectively while wearing sandals. Killer has always been known for constantly improving his talent, from being one of the least experienced (at the beginning of his career) to being one of the talented (today). A dedicated teammate, player, & friend, William continues to be a good player. We expect more great playing from this unique talent.
Hall of Fame profile for :
Matthew "Hollywood" Thornton (Vipers)
Now joining his older brother (Josh "Dr. Funky Green" Smith) in the hall of fame, HOllywood is now one of the more accomplished players. As the captain of the Vipers, he's managed to keep the roster constant & dedicated. He's by far one of the most passionate & emotional players, wearing his heart on his sleeve, yelling when angry & acclaiming when success comes the Vipers way; this was made obvious when he was awarded 'most agressive player' in 2003. But now his dream has come true, he's in the GDWL hall of fame (since he barely didn't get in last year, lacking one vote from tieing 3rd place in 2003). He has good batting skills, & is one of the league's best homerun hitters, one of the best.
Hall of Fame profile for :
Katherine "Fashionably Late" Held (Green Bears)
A natural talent she is, the youngest player, & a female at that (hard to come by). Although she doesn't fully apply herself as much as she used to, she still occassionally pulls together a little effort & will surprise everyone with her talent. Her nickname originated due to her always being late for games, & for critiquing everyone's style in dress, so her teammates (Dr. Funky Green & Chestar) began calling her 'Fashionably Late.' Sister of William "Killer" Held, she plays very different from him. A arguably good pitcher & occasionally good with the bats, she can sometimes steal the show & let everyone see her unforeseen talent.
Hall of Fame profile for :
Greg "The Polish Wonder" Szepelak (Green Bears)
It was a pleasant surprise to see that GDWL members voted in Zep into this year's hall of fame (considering he has YET to play a game with the G. Bears since the GDWL/kung-fu pandas incident). Obviously it was prestige that rewarded him with this honor (he actually wasn't originally on the ballet, but he was written in). He is a very talented player, having the ability to drill the ball incredible distances, & is a good relieving pitcher. He emerged from the Kung-Fu Pandas, rebelling against his teammate & joining the rest of the GDWL. Hopefully he will have fun & finally get his feet wet in making his debut as a Green Bear.
Hall of Fame profile for :
Les "Big Daddy" Milam Jr. (obligated to G. Bears)
This was a huge shocker! No one really expected for Les to be inducted this year, like Zep, it had to be prestige. He was voted for by some b/c of his humorous attitude & his unforgettable batting style (one handed with feet close together). Brother-in-law of Dr. Funky Green & Hollywood, he was naturally introduced to the GDWL. His obtuse/unique batting style was successful, however, occasionally hitting HR's. sadly, he has never played in a regular season game, or signed a congract, nor played since 2003. The 35-year-old was welcomed warmly by the league when he showed up. One of the most liked players, to say the least.
