Q - How is it determined which age bracket my child will play under?
A - The NSC will create as many recreational teams as are needed, depending on the number of registered recreational players. Each player assigned to a team based on age and gender, with the age levels divided into seven groups, U6 (co-ed), U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U19. Age brackets are based on birthdates that fall between August 1st through July 31st of each year. Click on the age matrix for specific date information...

Q - Are children required to tryout to be placed on a team?
A - There are no tryouts for recreational soccer.

Q - How often does recreational soccer practice?
A - Generally practice is 2x's per week per the coach’s discretion.

Q - When does the season begin?
A - Practice begins the week of 8/10 and the first season game is 9/12. Pre-season scrimmage and Fun Day is scheduled for 8/22/09.

Q - Where will practice be?
A - Practices are generally held at local schools & parks which are assigned to the coaches.

Q - What equipment do I need to play soccer?
A - For practice, you will need cleats, shin guards, socks that cover your shin guards, a soccer ball and most importantly water or Gatorade brought to every practice and of course for games you will need a full uniform.

Q - What size ball do I need?
A - Every age group has a specific size ball. Please see the below age chart for correct ball size.

AGE -BALL
U6 -size 3
U8 -size 3
U10 -size 4
U12 -size 4
U14 -size 5

Q - How long is the season?
A - Recreational teams have a season that goes from September to November, with a total of ten games.

Q - When will my child hear from a coach?
A - Registered players will receive a call from a coach at the beginning of the season. If you do not receive a call by the middle of August please call the registrar @ 265-3173. Please do not call before then, many coaches are on vacation in the summer and will call you as soon as they can.

Q - How do I handle special requests, like playing up, for my child?
A - Each special request must go before the RCYSL registrar for consideration. NSC does not approve or deny these requests they are decided by the league. All players wishing to play up need to have a parent/guardian complete the playing up form and turn it in with the child's registration. Players may NOT play down.

Q - What do I need for registration if my child is new to soccer or did not play last year?
A - You will need a COPY of the player's birth certificate (NO hospital certificates will be accepted). As well as a 1x1 photo.

Q - How can I volunteer?
A - If interested in volunteering, please email the club @ natomas_soccer_club@hotmail.com with your information for our volunteer coordinator. We have a huge need for volunteers.

Q - Can I request to have my child placed with a certain coach or friend?
A - Requests for specific coaches/players at the recreational level should be noted at the time of registration. The club will attempt to accommodate those requests but there is no guarantee that everyone will be accommodated.

Q - Does each team have a "team manager" or "team mom"? If so, what are their responsibilities? How would I go about volunteering for that position?
A - Some teams do choose to have a team manager or team mom. That person typically takes on many of the team’s administrative duties. Those duties can include sending team e-mails or placing phone calls, picture day, collecting team money (banner), snack schedule etc. The coach and team manager/team mom usually work out those responsibilities before the season starts. If each team has an active parent in this role, the Coach can focus on coaching and preparing the team for their games.

Q - Can my child wear jewelry?
A - Jewelry is not permitted at practices or games for safety reasons. NO exceptions.

Q - What about "rain-outs" or cancellations?
A - Soccer is an all weather sport. Coaches determine if practice is cancelled. League and Club determine if games are cancelled, mostly due to flooded areas and/or lightning. Parents, of course, may withdraw their child from play if they are uncomfortable with safety issues. Soccer is traditionally played under many conditions including heat, rain, cold, and wind so be prepared.
