Tournament Rules
1. All teams will play preliminary round games to determine which teams advance:
1a. All teams shall play in a preliminary round to determine seeding for advancement. Seeding will be based on the number of points earned in the preliminary round.
1b. The top four teams in the preliminary round, in each division (Squirt 98, Squirt 99), will advance to a semifinal round (top four teams). There will be no overtime in the preliminary round games but there will be a 3 man shoot out if the teams are still tied after 3 shooter a side the shoot out will continue 1 player at a time sudden death until a winner is determined. If a player has time remaining on a penalty at the end of the game that player will not be eligible to shoot in the shoot out.
2. Points shall be awarded in the preliminary round as follows:
a. 3 points for a win in regulation
b. 2 points for a win in the shoot out
c. 1 point for a loss in the shoot out
d. 0 points for a loss
3. In the event of a tie in the number of points earned in the preliminary rounds, the following tie- breakers shall be applied to determine the final position:
a. Head to head result
b. Goal differential
c. Least goals against
d. Least penalty minutes
4. A tie in a semi final or final game shall be settled by one five minute sudden death OT period with both teams playing 4 on 4 (plus goalie). If no goal is scored in the five minute OT period, each team will send 5 players in a shoot out, if after 5 shooters a side the score is still tied the shoot out will continue 1 player a side until a winner is determined. Any player that has time remaining on a penalty at the end of the overtime will not be eligible to shoot in the shoot out.
5. Penalties will carry over to overtime. If a team is penalized during the overtime, the minimum number of players on the ice will be 2. If an additional penalty is incurred, the penalized player will go to the box and the penalty will begin after the previous penalty expires. The teams will not change ends for the overtime and intermission will be 1 minute. Any player with time remaining on a penalty after overtime will not be able to shoot in the shoot out.
6. All games shall be 3 periods of 12 minutes stopped time. The sole exception is a lead of 6 or more goals in the third period, in which case, running time shall be utilized for the remainder of the game or until the lead is less than 6 goals.
7. Pre game warm-ups are 3 minutes from the sounding of the horn. Teams shall be prepared to take the ice 10 minutes prior to scheduled game time.
8. All referee decisions are final and will not be overturned by the tournament director. USA hockey rules will be in effect.
9. Each team will get 1, one minute time-out in the preliminary , semi finals and Finals
