    NJ SPORTS TRAINING

     For The coaches

    Manager/Coach Selection & Responsibilities
    MANAGER/COACH SELECTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Qualified adults volunteers, who must be 18 years of age or older, are entitled to act as team managers, coaches and umpires. Team manager volunteers will be approved by the Board based on experience, past coaching history with SYBL and need. For insurance purposes, all managers and coaches must attend a Coaching Certification class such as the Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y course. Any individual attending some other program must present course particulars to the Board for approval. Proof of Certification is required. All Managers, Coaches and Board Members are required to have a Criminal Background check done for the safety of our players. The cost is $10 and is paid by the volunteer to the NJ State Police. Background checks will be done by the Spotswood Police Department prior to the season. All background checks will be valid for 3 years within SYBL.

Each Manager will be able to choose one (1) assistant coach prior to the draft. After the draft, if there are additional assistant coach volunteers from the roster, the manager can then add additional coaches. There will be a maximum of three (3) coaches (1 manager and 2 assistant coaches) on the field at any game
All Managers, Assistant coaches and Board members are still required to fulfill their work bond duties
Managers must choose a team parent volunteer and advise the Team Parent Officer of this selection before the start of the season. Smoking by managers or coaches on the field during practice sessions or games is prohibited.

Incident Reports: In case of an injury or incident, each Manager is required to inform the board member on duty and complete an incident report at the snackbar signed by the parent of the child involved. See your Division Director for more details.

    Draft Procedures
    DRAFT PROCEDURES:
Prior to "Draft Day" the Managers of the Seniors, Major, and Minor divisions will hand in rating sheets of all players. The purpose of the Rating System is to ensure every manager/coach involved in the draft has as much information as possible regarding player capabilities to help ensure an even distribution of talent. This of course assumes the manager/coach properly leverages the available information.

Ratings of 1-5 (1 being the best rating) will be assigned to each player in their respective divisions, with the exception of those players moving up to the next division and new players entering the league. (See below details for those players moving up to the next division).

Each manager will also be expected to identify players that have had actual pitching experience as well.
Those that have had pitching experience will be identified as P1 or P2, along with their Rating. P1 will designate a player that has had significant pitching experience, and was considered one of the Top 3 pitchers in that managers rotation last season. P2 will designate a player that has had some pitching experience, pitched on occasion as needed, however, was NOT one the Top 3 pitchers in that managers rotation last season.

Players moving up to the next division from the Rookies and Minors shall be rated by their Managers based on a (3-5) Rating Scale, (3 being the best rating). It is expected that the vast majority of the players moving up to the next division will fall into the (4) and (5) range. The reason for the (3-5) Rating system is that the new players moving up can not be expected to play at the same level of those already playing in that division, thus, we want to make certain that each Manager is aware of what players are actually moving up as they may not be familiar with all the players from a lower division. ALL NEW PLAYERS TO SYBL WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE RATED A (5).

The actual draft process will be conducted by one or more Executive Board Members NOT involved in the actual drafting process (i.e. those NOT a manager/coach drafting players at that time).
Please note each team will automatically be assigned the child/children of the Manager and (1) Coach of that team. Additional coaches will be added after the drafting process. Prior to the start of the actual draft, the ratings of the players for each team will be totaled. This is done to total the manager and coaches children. The team with the highest total will be the first to draft from the existing list of players. Each manager/coach will select (1) player from the list of available players per round. At the end of each draft round, the team ratings will again be totaled and the team with the highest total will draft first. Remember that the highest totals imply the team has the lowest rated players, thus, get the next pick.

There will be no trading of players once the drafting process is continued. Since there will be NO late registrations, there should be no discrepancies around adding new players after the draft.
RATING INFORMATION IS CONFIDENTIAL AND WILL NOT BE DISTRIBUTED TO ANYONE OTHER THAN THOSE PARTICIPATING IN THE DRAFT PROCESS.
    ALL DRAFT PICKS ARE FINAL.

    Call Up Procedures
    CALL-UP SELECTION & RULES:

In the event a team cannot be fielded with the required number of players (9), Managers will have access to a call up list. This list is comprised of players from the next lower division that have been pre-selected to fill any required vacancies. Only players on the approved call up list are eligible to play. Managers playing with a non- –call up list player will automatically forfeit the game. SYBL will have a Junior call up list for Minor games and a Minor call up list for Major games. The call up list is determined by a number of factors including manager and coach recommendation, Division Director approval, as well as age. Any player from the list may be utilized at the Manager’s discretion. There will be no active monitoring of the list to determine what players get used and when. All Managers will be given the call up list for their current division. All managers will be notified of which players on their team are on these lists for the next division. A manager cannot pull up a player if that player already has a game scheduled at the same time.
