Cub Pack 113, along with its brother Boy Scout Troop 113, serves the mid-New Jersey area centered mainly on Franklin Township, Somerset County, NJ, and is chartered by the Somerset Presbyterian Church, .
Our Pack is part of the Joyce Kilmer District that is itself a part of the Central New Jersey Council, whose headquarters are on Route 1 South in Monmouth Junction, NJ and which is in turn located in the Northeast Region of the Boy Scouts of America Organization.
All boys in first thru fifth grade are welcome to join regardless of place of residence, religion, etc. Boys will typically re-register in the early summer before school is out or register as a new scout at an open enrollment in early summer (see calendar) or in the fall at the start of the school year. Boys interested in joining our Pack should see the Joining Pack 113 page.
Generally, we meet as a Pack once a month. These Pack meetings include a campfire meeting at Oak Spring Day Camp, fun activity nights including the Pinewood Derby and a themed "Games Night" where Cubs can earn prizes, and awards ceremonies including the Blue and Gold Banquet and the final meeting where scouts "bridge" over to the next rank. Our Cubmaster presides at these meetings and they are attended by Cubs and their families.
Like most Packs, we are organized into five smaller age/grade specific groups called Dens that meet more frequently, usually from two to four times a month and are run by a Den Leader, usually a Cub’s parent, most often with the assistance of a Den Chief (a Troop 113 Boy Scout) and possibly one or more Assistant Den Leaders. Tiger meetings are also attended by the Cub’s parent or guardian partner who assists the Tiger Scout. In the past, Dens have met in leaders’ homes, MacAfee Road School, and at Somerset Presbyterian Church. Meetings usually last for an hour to an hour and one half. Additionally, Dens may plan a weekend activity for rank advancement or just for fun. Each Den is made up of boys of one school grade as listed and since most Dens have six to eight members, there may be more than one Den per grade:
First grade - Tiger
Second grade - Wolf
Third grade - Bear
Fourth grade - Webelos 4
Fifth grade - Webelos 5 (at our annual Blue and Gold Dinner in late January, Webelos 5s become Boy Scouts).
Often during the fall we have a major fundraiser when we sell BSA popcorn. The Pack depends on fundraising and registration fees to pay for all activities, awards, books and other materials, etc.
During the summer, Pack members like to attend a Cub/Parent weekend at Kittatinny Mountain Scout Reservation as a unit.
From time to time we have participated as a pack in district and council level activities including the Cub Olympics. The Pack has also attended sports events like basketball and baseball games as a group.
