THE PSS BUDDY
PSS players come to us with a range of special needs and challenges. Some have physical disabilities, such as difficulty walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, or managing their physical movements. Others have cognitive or attention-related issues. Many of our players have been diagnosed with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, or fall within the spectrum of Autism/PDD disorders.
As much as possible, we pair every player with his or her own
Buddy. Our Buddies are the most important part of making PSS sports a great experience for our players.
Not everyone has the make-up to be a PSS Buddy. Buddies must be patient, attentive, flexible, and sincerely committed to working with our players. To be a Buddy, you should be at least 12 years old (exceptions may be approved by the PSS Board) and demonstrate a genuine interest in working with special needs children. We provide community service confirmations to our participating buddies who may have school or other community service requirements.
Buddy registration forms can be downloaded from the handouts section of this website.
If you are interested in becoming a PSS Buddy (or an adult coach), please contact our Buddy Coordinator, Ann Diver, at anndiver@aol.com or (609) 924-0441.
