PLYMOUTH-WHITEMARSH SPARTANS
FOOTBALL AND CHEERLEADING INC.
Established in 1959
The Spartans involve about 305 children between the ages of 5 and 15. A member of the Keystone State Football League, our club plays its homes games at East Plymouth Valley Park, about ½ mile west of the Plymouth Meeting Mall (toward Route 202) on Germantown Pike in Plymouth Township. Away games are played in Montgomery, Bucks and Philadelphia counties.
Our football teams - including the 90- pound & 105-pound squad in 2005 - have won numerous Keystone championships through the years. Our junior and senior competition cheerleading squads appear in competitions all over the Philadelphia area between January and March. The girls have won more than a dozen first-place trophies in recent years and many of them have gone on to cheer for the Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School’s renowned varsity and junior varsity cheerleading teams.
The Spartans are dedicated to promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and character. Our kids work hard but also have loads of fun. As evidenced by our adult volunteers who once played and cheered for our organization, the Spartan experience is a positive one that will stay with your child for a lifetime. That is our mission.
We are a 48-year-old not-for-profit organization that spends all the funds we raise on our children. Registration fees pay for uniforms, equipment, a year-end trophy for every child, top-of-the-line jackets for members of championship teams, and special award jackets for children who have participated for 4, 7, and 9 years. Besides using registration fees, the Spartans also depend on snack stand revenue, a yearly contribution from Plymouth Township, and private donors to fund operations.
A banquet is held every year to celebrate our kids’ accomplishments.
The Spartans Board meets at 8 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the downstairs room of Franzone’s Italian American Restaurant 200 Ridge Pike, Conshohocken. (When heading toward Chemical Road from Butler Pike, turn right at the car wash and go down a half of a block down the street. You’ll see the restaurant on your left.) During the football season, these public meetings start at 8:30 p.m. All are encouraged to attend.
Click “Registration” for more information on how to sign up your child. The Spartans is not interested in recruiting children from other organizations. However, residency in Whitemarsh or Plymouth townships is not a requirement to participate.
If you are interested in supporting the Spartans and receiving signage at our field for you company, click on fundraising. All support is appreciated and put to good use.
