MEET THE DIRECTOR
John Spiess has guided the New Jersey Rising Stars AAU Program for the past 40 years. A former Division 1 college coach at Towson University and the University of Rhode Island, Coach Spiess was also the head man at Georgian Court College and NJIT. He was actually the first ever women's coach at NJIT.
A long-time speaker and clinician, Coach Spiess has worked at or helped direct numerous summer camps including Florida State University, Vanderbilt University and the University of Oklahoma. A staff member for many years at Pocono Invitational, John also hosted his own "Hoop Help" Basketball Camp for 13 years.
On the high-school level, he as coached at both Asbury Park High School and Bishop Ahr in Edison. His coaching record speaks for itself with his AAU teams reaching the National Championship on 12 different occasions. Most recently, John was the Varsity Coach for the Lady Hawks Basketball Team at J.P. Stevens High School in Edison, leading the Lady Hawks to the semi-finals in both Counties and States.
Coach Spiess emphasizes defense, teamwork and giving 110 percent.
