Maggiolo leads Seagulls to first victory!!!
June 8, 2007 --
The San Francisco Seagulls (1-2) used a combination of good pitching, timely hitting and good baserunning to beat the Bay Area Giants (5-5) by a score of 5-4. With the victory, the Seagulls earned their first win of the 2007 season.
With the Seagulls trailing 3-0 in the 3rd inning, RF Sam Matulich got things started with a line shot single that deflected off the pitchers glove. With two outs, and Matulich running on the pitch, LF Bobby Carini laced a double into right center field to plate the Seagulls first run.
After giving up 3 early runs on three costly errors, Seagulls starting pitcher Matt Maggiolo (8IP, 3R, 1ER, 3BB, 7K's) was cruising along and waiting for the Seagulls offense to get him back into the game.
In the 6th inning, the Seagulls used a 1 out single from 3B Robert Hitchins and a timely two out-two strike RBI single from CF Dan Fernandez to plate Hitchins .
Maggiolo was on top of his game, and pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the 7th to keep the Seagulls within striking distance.
With the Seagulls trailing 3-2 in the 7th inning, they used 2 Giants walks and an error to take a 4-3 lead. During the inning, the Seagulls perfectly executed a double steal to tie the game.
After the Giants came right back and tied the game at 4-4 in the 8th inning, the Seagulls continued their tradition of winning from behind. 2B Joe McNab was hit by a Giants offering to start the inning. He then stole second base and used two wild pitches from Giants pitcher Sam Stewert to score the go ahead run.
With a 5-4 lead in the 9th inning, Maggiolo (1-0) turned the ball over to Aaron Bjorkquist (1IP, 0R, 1K) who effectively retired the Giants hitters in order and earned his first save of the season.
The Seagulls could only muster 5 hits, but took advantage of 10 walks and 7 wild pitches to score 5 runs and claim the victory.
The Seagulls offense was led by Carini (2-3, 2B, RBI, SB) and Ledda (0-0, 4BB, SB).
Next up, the Seagulls take on the Novato Knicks on Saturday June 9th, 2007. The first pitch of the double header is slated for 3:00 P.M. at Alberts Park in San Rafael.

As the Seagulls were hanging on to a 1-0 lead, starting pitcher Tyler Greene (6IP, 0R, 1BB, 6K's) combined a downhill fastball with a good off speed pitch to cruise thru six shutout innings.
In the 5th inning, the Seagulls offense sent 14 batters to the plate and scored 8 runs to take a promising 9-0 lead. The big blow of the inning came off the bat of LF Ryan Peterson. Peterson took a 1-2 offering and dropped it into right field for a two RBI single.

Seagulls pound San Jose Brew Crew!!!
June 23, 2007 --
The San Francisco Seagulls (10-4) started out slowly, leaving 13 runners on base in the first 5 innings and not scoring a run. Finally the Seagulls scored twice in the bottom of the 6th and seven times in the bottom of the 7th on their way to a 9-1 route of the San Jose Brewers. The Seagulls pounded out 15 hits and played solid defense behind winning pitcher Tyler Greene.
Tom Ledda (pictured) who lead off the bottom of the 6th with one of his three hits, a triple to deep left center, got the Seagulls rolling. Dan McCarthy followed with a double to left to score Ledda. After the double, Angus Schallar ripped a triple to left center, scoring McCarthy giving the Seagulls a 2-0 lead.
The Seagulls offense continued their route in the bottom of the 7th when Lorenzo Ubungen lead off the inning with a single. Mike Aicardi followed with a single and Dan Fernandez reached on a fielders choice to load the bases. Ledda then hit a fly ball deep enough to score Ubungen from third for a sacrifice fly. Then Ryan Peterson got into the mix with a double to right center, scoring Aicardi and Fernandez. After a McCarthy walk, Jake Walter singled home Peterson to give the Seagulls a 6-1 lead. Robert Hitchins then walked and scored later in the inning to make the score 9-1.
Winning pitcher Tyler Greene continued his dominance by shutting down a good hitting Brewer team. Greene threw 8 strong innings only giving up 1 earned run on 6 hits without walking a single batter and striking out 6. Greene overpowered the Brewer lineup by throwing consistent strikes and retiring the leader hitter in 6 of his 8 innings.
The Seagull offense was lead by Ledda (3-4, Triple, RBI), Schallar (2-5, Triple, RBI), Walter (2-5, RBI). Peterson and Ubungen each collected 2 RBI's in the Seagulls route.
Next up, the Seagulls take their five game winning streak into a Sunday June 24th, 2007 doubleheader against the Nor Cal Longhorns. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 A.M. at College of San Mateo.
