LIFE LESSONS: A COACH'S LEGACY...
I will teach my team the pleasures of hard work
And the importance of teamwork.
I will show them the joys of reaching a goal
And the satisfaction of finishing strong.
I will explain to them the beauty of integrity
And the fulfillment of fitness.
I will know their name
And demand thier best.
I wll do these things because I love them
And respect them.
The surest way I know to teach these things
Is to have them learn by my example.

Cheerleader...
Courteous and helpful to all- on and off the court.
Happy and cheerful, why? Because that is what we do!
Everybody's friend.
Everybody's crutch.
Ready to cheer, because we love it!
Leader to everybody- even off the court.
Extremely exhilarated!
Always ready to take charge, and give confidence.
Demand to be noticed, because we notice you.
Exactly what your looking for when you need a boost.
Rah! Rah! Go team, future of America!

Believing That You Can Do It!
As the day of our competition nears,
Remember the smiles, forget the tears.
Remember the times we've spent together,
Cherish them now, cherish them forever.
Next year it will not be the same,
Some girls lost, some girls gained.
Doing the routine one more time,
To fix that motion and straighten that line.
We've had many falls and lots of tough breaks,
We took our chances but knew what was at stake.
We are all exhausted and ready to rest,
But first we must show the world who is best.
Regardless of what the judges criticize,
Remember they weren't there to realize,
We sweated, we ached, and we worked all the while,
And we hide all the pain with a convincing smile.
So show them now what we have worked for,
Give a little extra where there needs to be more.
Smile and know that we have finished the race,
Regardless of what we win or place.

The Champion Within...
Champions are made when you believe in the possibility of the perfect team.
When you believe in the flyer even though she’s fallen before.
When you believe in the base even though she’s faltered before.
When you believe in the tumblers even though they’ve stumbled before.
When you believe in the back tucks even though they’ve crashed before.
When you believe in the routine even though it’s fallen short before.
When you believe in the girl beside you and yourself even though you’ve failed before.
Believing in each other and yourself reveals the Champion within

Cheerleading....
Cheerleading is a way of life, shared by a chosen few,
It is working as a unit in everything you do
Cheerleading is a rivalry, the competition makes you strong,
It is sharing secrets and tears, learning to get along
Cheerleading is that ongoing drive to be the very best,
It is patience, perseverance, and very little rest
Cheerleading is having poise and charm with every word you say,
It is total dedication twenty-four hours a day
It is always being ready with encouragement and a smile
Cheerleading is your chance to express your individual style
Cheerleading is reaching out to comfort a sister who is sad,
It is defending each other in good times and the bad
Cheerleaders are always there when someone asks,
They treasure the present moment and let go of the past
Cheerleading is a talent to be able to shine on cue
It is hiding the pain and anguish that if only half the people knew
Cheerleaders, after all, are real people that sometimes get down
but when they're in the spotlight, they must never show a frown
Cheerleaders are actresses always ready to go
That is why it's important for all the world to know
Not every girl can be a cheerleader, it takes a special kind
Cheerleaders are full of life and a little bit out of their minds.
|
The ABC’S Of Cheerleading...
Always be on time and to have a good
Atitude in all you do and to be
Accountable in your own actions
Be the Best cheerleader and person you can be
Courage, to have it in the face of defeat and to be
Confident in your-self and have good Character, it takes years to build it and mere seconds to destroy it, and most important is
Communication with you coach and squad
Dependable, how we know we can count on each other
Enthusiastic and Eager, to do all that is asked of us and more
Faithful and Friends, put these two words together and we are a strong squad
Good Grades, these always come first
Honesty,is how we believe in each other and
Hard work will account for everything else
Integrity & Intelligence, if you have the first one the second will follow in all you do
Just Cheer, need I say more
Kindness, to your fellow man/cheerleader
Loyalty, loyalty to the coach and our squad
Listening, to truly hear what is being said and not what you think is being said
Love for the sport (cheerleading)
Look your best and cheer your Loudest
Motivation, is how we keep each other going through all the hard stuff(stunting)
Never quit or curse, quitters never win and winners never quit, the second speaks for itself
Open minds and hearts, open your mind to all possibilities and the second one will follow
Perfect practice makes Perfect when you have the Passion , need I say more
Quality, I believe this is more important than quantity
Responsible & Respectful, if we are always these, we are always winners
Strength, in body, mind and soul
Style, in everything else
Sportmanship, to everyone we meet
Smile, ALWAYS
Team, many bodies but only one HEART
Time, one thing you can never get back wants it's wasted
Unity, as the saying goes,"United we stand, divided we fall"
Visualize & Vocalize, see what others can’t and say what other want
Wisdom, to change the things I can and to understand the things I can not and to have the wisdom to know the difference!
eXemplify, cheerleaders lead by example
Year, full of hard work, practices, games, car washes, parties, parades, friends, laughter, tears and to do all this with a "SMILE" :0}'
Zero is the amount of tolerance I have for anyone who does not give their all.

A Flyer's Thanks
Thank you to my bases for always being there
It's all because of you that people see me in the air
Thank you to my back spot- I've a lot to thank you for
You've landed flat on your back- but never let me hit the floor
For all those times I smacked you- trying to twist down
For all the times I spazzed out- and couldn't get around
For all the times you yelled, "Lock out! LOCK YOUR KNEES!"
For all the times you said ok when I said, "one more time, please?"
I didn't catch your shoulders- its my job as your flyer
You said ok and didn't kill me when I said, "uh, could you catch a little higher?"
When ready to give up- "Stick it!" you would scream
And I could, because of you and the faith in our team.
For all the times you were tired- your muscles were so sore
With a sigh, you toughed it out and let me stunt some more
When trying new stunts and I was scared of what to do
You calmed me down and promised, "Relax- you know we've got you"
Bruises, pain and knuckle scrapes- my basket tosses brought
Backwards, forwards, sideways- I still knew that I'd be caught
I know it can't be easy- catching all my weight
You make it look so easy- we make our stunts look great
And even when we drop one- I know its not the end
You always catch me safely and we put it up again
So for all the times you caught me- you never let me fall
I know that backs and bases work the hardest of us all
You do all the work and I get so much glory
I know it isn't fair that people don't see the full story
Just know once more I thank you- for everything you've done
Without your work and friendship cheering wouldn't be as fun
And every time someone says they're amazed by what I do
I thank you and know that it my heart,
It's all because of you.

Cheerleading Rules to Live By:
Sportsmanship starts and ends with the cheerleaders.
Cheer every game, as thou it were your last.
When all else fails, let your spirit shine through.
The difference between good and great is practice, practice, practice. There is no *I*in TEAMWORK.
Somewhere in the stands is a little girl who wants to be just like you...don't let her down.
It takes years to build character...and a second to destroy it.
The fans are looking to you, not at you.
Mom doesn't know where your uniform is because she didn't wear it last.
Democracy ends at the coach's door.
Coaches guide, and you, Keep the *leader* in cheerleader.

Coach
I finally learned what life is all about.
The secret of success comes hard no doubt.
I trained, I sweated, I ached, I cried.
And found out I got better, each time I tried.
I was pushed, yelled at, and preached at too!
But the more that this happened, the more I grew
"You can be anything you want to be!"
This voice kept shouting out to me.
Yet, who can I blame for such a daring approach?
THAT GENERAL, THAT COUNSELOR, THAT FRIEND I CALL MY COACH!!
|
The Competitor's Creed ...
The contest lasts for moments
though the training's taken years.
It wasn't the winning alone
that was worth the work and tears.
The applause will be forgotten,
the prize misplaced.
But the long, hard hours of practice
will never be a waste!
For in trying to win you build a skill;
You learn that winning depends on will.
You never grow by how much you win,
You only grow by how much you put in.
So in any new challenge you've just begun,
Put forth your best and you've already won!

A CHEERLEADER WITHIN US...
It's the glimmer of hope when times are tough;
It's a bit more patience when we've had enough.
It's that thoughtful smile when one's desperately needed,
It's that extra push, a reason why we've succeeded.
This part of our personality which never fails to strive,
Is the creator of our goals and the source of our drive.
We are enthused about life, optimistic about what's to be,
Because the cheerleader inside looks for the best of life
you see.
It's the strong support upon which you stand,
It emerges as a friend to lend you a hand.
Where does this light come from, where does the ray start?
It shines in your mind, but ignites in your heart.
The confidence to try, the will to believe,
The acceptance of failure and the way to achieve.
It's very close by, its something we trust.
It's the fighter inside, it's the cheerleader within us.
|
ATTITUDE...
The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on my life.
Attitude is more important than facts.
It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do.
It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.
It will make or break a company...a church...a home....a team.
The remarkable thing is that we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace.
We cannot change our past...we cannot change the inevitable.
But we CAN play on the one string we have...our attitude!
Life is truly 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it.
|
FIGHT FOR VICTORY...
As she stands in front of the world
Her stomach balled up and curled.
Shes waited all year for this day
And thrown many opportunites away.
She had a chance to do many other things,
But all she wanted was some wings.
Cheerleading was her sport,
and all other ones just fell short.
The music turns on blasting
But her fear is everlasting.
She goes to flip fly and soar,
They need the winning score.
As the end of the routine is near,
The fear just suddenly dissapears.
The music stops with a boom,
the other teams have reached their doom.
They're done and they watch and they wait,
to finally ascertain their fate.
The score is up and the results are in,
Only one team can win.
All the other teams sit and cry,
but her teams faces are dry.
The winner has been announced,
Thir team had won pronounced!
|
CHOOSE...
CHOOSE TO LOVE. . .rather than hate.
CHOOSE TO SMILE. . . rather than frown.
CHOOSE TO BUILD . . . rather than destroy.
CHOOSE TO PERSEVERE . . . rather than quit.
CHOOSE TO PRAISE . . . rather than gossip.
CHOOSE TO HEAL . . . rather than wound.
CHOOSE TO GIVE . . . rather than grasp.
CHOOSE TO ACT . . . rather than delay.
CHOOSE TO FORGIVE . . . rather than curse.
|
Us...
We stand together in support of our team
united, committed, one motive, one dream.
What we do is different unlike all the rest,
but somehow the same when we all try our best.
We don't use a bat, a ball, or a net,
just determination, muscle, endurance, and sweat.
We cheer because we love the thrill of the game,
to motivate the crowd--nothing else is the same.
So don't call us ditzy, and don't call us cute,
lose the misconceptions, seek out the truth.
Our spirit is endless, our hearts filled with pride,
please look past the stereotype and see the athlete inside.
|
Garden For Success...
First, plant four rows of peas:
Promptness
Patience
Politeness
Perseverance
Next to these, plant three rows of squash:
Squash Gossip
Squash Criticism
Squash Negative Attitude
Next, plant five rows of lettuce:
Let us be Loyal
Let us be Truthful
Let us be Compassionate
Let us be Tolerant
Let us be Friendly
No garden is complete without turnips:
Turn up on time
Turn up with a smile
Turn up with Determination in your heart!
|
"Everyone's a Winner"...
Everyone's a winner
If that is what they choose,
Unless their choice is not to win,
Then of course they lose.
Winners always have ideas,
While losers fix the blame,
The two might seem alike but
They sure don't think the same.
All winners have a dream,
Of what they want to do,
They plan a life to reach their goal,
To make their dream come true.
Losers see a problem,
in every good idea,
All a winner sees is another chance,
to further their career.
|
IF...
If a child is encouraged to injure or cheat,
They'll be cautioned and sin-binned and paid with defeat.
If a child is taught hate for the opposite side,
They will gloat when they win and whinge when they slide.
If a child is taught winning is the only thing,
They will miss all the fun of having a fling.
If a child is praised for just taking part,
They'll find self-fulfillment the simplest art.
If a child is encouraged for the good skills they show,
Their faults will recede and vanish, we know.
If a child is taught the team comes before them,
They will shine to the rest, like a shimmering gem.
If a child is given kindness, respect and an ear,
They will love the game truly, for that give a cheer.

Let a hopeful heart carry you through
For things will work out! If you trust and believe
There's NO LIMIT to what you can do!

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE COMPETITION...
Twas the night before competition, and all through the bunch
Not a person was tired, not even the coach
Awards were hung in the hall with care
In hopes that another would soon be there.
The uniforms were nestled in the small suitcase,
The shoes were kept close and tied with lace,
Finally, asleep we dreamt of winning,
Waking to the sound of one of our bases singing.
We ate a healthy breakfast, our coach said it is a must.
We loaded onto our bus; the only thing we left behind was dust.
We entered the gym, hopefully on time,
But only to find
That we were in the wrong town
We started to drive, this time west bound.
We finally made it, and started to unpack,
To find nothing that we lack.
We're ready to go
But just then (somebody's name) yelled, "Owe I've sprained my toe!"
We wrapped it up tight,
This time ready to fight.
As we took the floor,
I recall thinking, Man I'm gonna be sore.
We did our routine, with a few mistakes,
We had a few more sprains, but thankfully, no breaks.
We went off smiling, happy, cheerful, and doing a jump.
Knowing that we'd lost but hoping for second.
When the announcers called out who had won
We were nowhere to be found we started to leave thinking we were done.
But then he quickly yelled out,
"Hey, (where ever you're from) you've just won, with out a doubt."
Shocked and amazed, joyful and surprised,
We smiled gratefully and took our prize,
We'd always remember this day,
Every time we say,
"Congratulations to all,
And to all a good year."

A Winner...
Everyone's a winner
If that is what they choose,
Unless their choice is not to win,
Then of course they lose.
Winners always have ideas,
While losers fix the blame,
The two might seem alike but
They sure don't think the same.
All winners have a dream,
Of what they want to do,
They plan a life to reach their goal,
To make their dream come true.

Words To Live By
Practice the way you will perform.
Love, honor, and obey your parents.
Attitude will make you or break you.
Talk less listen more.
Integrity, you and only you are responsible for your personal honesty.
Nothing is impossible unless you believe it to be.
Understand and accept others for who they are, not who you want them to be.
Motivation is the key to success. Laziness is the padlock to your future.
