The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Lacrosse Club was established to introduce the youth of SPF to the great sport of lacrosse, providing instruction and the opportunity to play against other teams.
Notes for the ’09 SPFLC Season
Due to a finite amount of coaches who were former lacrosse players as well as a finite amount of field time allocated to SPFLC we may be unable to field as many teams as will accommodate all players wishing to participate in our program. Therefore our registration may be closed once we reach optimum roster size. Priority will be given to pre-existing members.
Age Divisions
3rd / 4th grade program is an in-house program where the teams play all home games against other SPFLC 3rd / 4th grade teams with occasional away games against other clubs for fun. In this in-house division the goals are to teach beginners basic lacrosse skills, sportsmanship, and to provide equal playing time for all participants.
5 grade through 8th grade teams participate in a travel league ( the NJJYLL for boys and NJGLL for girls) and play both home and away games with other teams in these leagues as well as participation in tournament play. The travel division offers a more skilled level of play against other competitive teams. The goals are to develop young lacrosse players and to teach them additional skills and game strategy as well as good sportsmanship. Playing time is determined by commitment and attitude, and is at the discretion of the coaches.
Participants in all age divisions must supply themselves with the appropriate personal equipment. For boys that includes lacrosse helmet, shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves, and boys-style stick. For girls it includes eye guard and girls-style stick. Pinnies are provided to in-house players and travel age players will need to purchase a uniform.
Clinics
SPFLC does not align itself with any particular fee-based lacrosse clinic or leagues. However, by clicking on the “Lax Link” button you will find a list of these programs to use for your own purposes.
SPFLC may hold our own clinics for our members, and if so, we will provide the information on this website or you will be emailed by the coaches of your team.
