Second Eagle Scout for 2009
September 22, 2009  --   On Tuesday Kyle Jonas completed his Board of Review for Eagle Scout. Shown in the picture above is his board consisting of Cassie Proctor (Committee Member), Dave Hundt (former Troop 77 Scoutmaster), Kyle, Chuck Loader (Committee Member), Chris Draves (Committee Member) and Rich Vsetula (District Advancement Chair).

Eagle Scout Geoffrey Grzesiak
October 11, 2008  --   The Boy Scouts of America awarded the rank of Eagle Scout to Geoff Grzesiak at a Court of Honor Ceremony on Saturday October 11, 2008 at Wacousta United Methodist Church.

Geoff was an active member of Troop 77 from 5/20/01 until he turned 18 on 3/20/08. During that time he served in numerous leadership positions including Scribe, Quartermaster and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. For his service project, Geoff organized the clean-up; repair and painting of numerous eagle, owl and hawk aviaries at a site near Mt. Pleasant that rehabilitates injured birds of prey. Geoff was a fixture at Troop 77 for many years as he attended almost all the meetings and campouts.

Currently, Geoff is a freshman studying Microbiology at Michigan State University.

Troop 77 Fifth Eagle Scout of 2008
October 27, 2008  --   The newest Eagle Scout from Troop 77, Andy Zeko, is shown above after his Eagle Board of Review on Monday October 27, 2008. On hand for his board of review are (left to right) Larry Proctor, Committee Member; Andy, Rich Vsetula, Migisin District Advancement Chair; Ken Wreggelsworth, Committee Member and Greg Jonas, Committee Chair. The Board of Review is the final step of the advancement process for Eagle. The purpose of the board of review is not to retest the scout, but rather to be certain the scout has passed all the requirements for the rank and to get a sense of the value of Scouting and how it has impacted the scout's life.

Eagle Scout Facts
The fact that a boy is an Eagle Scout has always carried with it a special significance, not only in Scouting but also as he enters higher education, business or industry, and community service. The award is a performance-based achievement whose standards have been well-maintained over the years.

Not every boy who joins a Boy Scout troop earns the Eagle Scout rank; only about 4 percent of all Boy Scouts do so. This represents more than 1 million Boy Scouts who have earned the rank since 1911. Nevertheless, the goals of Scouting - citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness - remain important for all Scouts, whether or not they attain the Eagle Scout rank.

Troop 77 leadership is very dedicated to all boys regardless of which of the many aspects of Scouting the individual boy chooses to pursue. Troop 77 is highly respected throughout Chief Okemos Council for the sheer number of boys in our troop that choose to pursue the Eagle rank... and accomplish their goal!
