Record: 8-16 (7th Place in EOBA)

New Faces: Bruce Craine (ss), Matt Melissis (IF), Ryan Mahadai (p), Chris Ganesh (IF/OF), Jon Thiebaud (OF), Jeff Kingdon (c), Jason Fleming (OF), Kent Howe (p), Shane Cowan (p), Imran mohammed ()F),

Goodbye to: Frank Underwood (moved), Jeremy Harness (retired), Mike Michaud (injured/retired),

The Canadians added 10 new faces to the lineup in 2008 thanks to a significant youth movement of junior aged players becoming eligible for senior ball. The club continues to improve, and in 2008 took some strides despite a sub par regular season that saw Whitby drop to the basement of the EOBA standings with a 6-18 record.

At the plate:

Jeff Hardy again led the team in hitting with a .382 average with Rob Patterson having another consistent year himself batting .328 with 2 HR's and 22 RBI's. Newcomer Bruce Craine solidified the club's need for a shortstop as he was lights out defensivel y, and contributed with the bat batting .307 in his first year of senior ball. Crain also showed patience at the plate, working 19 walks.

On the Hill:

Pete Stefanovic was the ace of this staff in 2008. A 3-3 record could easily have been 6-0 if the team had been able to provide Pete with some run support. In 39 innings, Stefanovic's ERA was 2.77 as he only walked 6 and struck out 38 batters.

2007 Whitby Canadians Season Recap
Record: 15-11 (4th Place in EOBA)

New Faces: Jason George (c), Frank Underwood (if), Jeremy Harness (lhp)

Goodbye to: Rob Lightle (retired), Trevor Beggs (retired), Mike Vance (injured), Brian Pittens (injured)

The Canadians said goodbye to 2 long time players in Rob Lightle and Trevor Beggs and were looking for some of the younger players to step up in 2007 and shoulder more of the load. The team added catcher Jason George and infielder Frank Underwood to a good core group of veterans and a group of players in their 2nd to 5th years on the team.

Whitby started off the year very hot and sat in 2nd place mid way through the season with an 11-3 record. A mild struggle through late July and early August saw them lose some games and also give some games away dropping them to 4th place to close the year out.

2006 Whitby Canadians Season Recap
Click Here for Final 2006 Stats
The Whitby Canadians began their 2006 season with a contest at the SkyDome against the Markham Pioneers. The Canadians won this game in their last at bats, securing a 3-2 victory and riding that momentum to a 5-1 record to start their season.

The team then lost a variety of close games in June and July as their record evened out as they closed at the .500 mark (13-13) and in 6th place.

Finishing 6th meant a matchup against the 3rd place Thornhill Reds in the EOBA championship tournament. The Canadians handled the Reds with ease during the regular season, owning a 3-1 record with 2 lopsided victories. The club ran into some good pitching from the Reds, and lost a close contest 4-3. Whitby would then go on to lose another 1 run game in their 2nd game of the tournament to the Ajax Spartans, with the potential tying run being thrown out at the plate to end the game, and their EOBA season.

The team then travelled to Sarnia to compete in the OBA B tournament on the Labour Day weekend. After dropping a close game to the New Lowell Knights to open the tournament, the Canadians reeled off 3 straight wins on Saturday to earn a birth in the quarterfinals. Losing the first game of the tournament is never the easiest road to take, and a lack of pitching depth caught up with them as they ran into the same All Star team from New Lowell on Sunday morning, and lost 7-4 to close out their season.

2005 Whitby Canadians Season Recap
A successful 2005 season saw the Whitby Canadians finish 2nd in the EOBA Tournament and made it to the final 4 in the OBA tourney. The bats really came alive at the end of the year, and the Canadians fielded what was admitted by esteemed and respected opponents such as Markham, as one of the best hitting teams they had played against.

The regular season was up and down as the Canadians couldn't seem to get on any sort of roll. Early season acquisitions of Mike Grieve & Rob Patterson bolstered what was already a strong offensive lineup.

The club wrapped up the regular season in 5th spot, and defeated a Kendal team that had given them fits in past years 7-1 in the first round of the playoffs. The Canadians rode that momentum all the way to the finals, eliminating the 1st place Kingston Ponies and 3rd place Markham Pioneers before losing 7-3 in the championship final.

The team then travelled to Sarnia for the B OBA tournament, and was able to put on a strong performance despite missing 2 key sticks in Trevor Cain and Rob Patterson. Trevor was able to join the team for Sunday action as the Canadians rode strong pitching and more timely hitting all the way to the semi finals before running out of pitching and losing to a very strong London team.

Season Notes:

* Jeff Hardy repeated as batting champion with a .412 average. Jeff also led the club in hits (40), doubles (8), and On base Percentage (.478)
* Trevor Cain led the team with 4 home runs
* Mike Grieve, in his first season on the team, batted .320 with 3 homeruns, 4 doubles, 14 RBI's and 15 walks
* Blair Hardy led the team with 11 stolen bases and again provided stellar defense all year in CF
* Lars Clay led the pitching staff with a 6-2 record. Lars tossed 81 innings, had a fantastic 2.90 ERA and K'd 49 batters.
* Rookie Pete Stefanovic was 4-2 on the hill with a 2.86 ERA. Pete also had a decent year at the plate leading the team in RBI's with 20.
* Dave Hickey was 4-2 on the mound in 2005. In 65 innigs, Dave had a 4.18 ERA and K'd 55 batters.
* 2005 was the year of the rookie, as the club had key contributions from other first year players.
Chambers Middlebrook batted .296 with 21 hits, 4 doubles, 1 triple & 1 HR. "Zipps" also knocked in 12 runs in a stellar first year on the club.
Rob Leva batted .318 with 14 hits & 7 RBI's in his rookie season. "Boomer" also tossed 12 innings for the Canadians and was 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA.
In 13 games, Rob Patterson had 15 hits, 2 doubles, 1 HR scored 10 runs and had 13 RBI's. The Canadians are looking forward to having his bat in the lineup for a full season in 2006.
* Veteran SS Sean Tremaine had another steady season, batting .276 with 34 hits, 14 RBI's, 19 walks and an OBP of .375
