Zach Lipana 09
Congratulations to Zach Lipana for being named WHS student of the month.  You make us proud, Zach!

09 NW Regionals Freestyle and Greco Championship
Kyle started day one, Freestyle, with two tough matches; one against a top ranked Oregon guy and the next against a California State Camp. After that, Kyle walked through the competition.

Dylan finished 3 in his Freestyle pool. They don't wrestle for 5/6 at this tournament, but top 6 out of a 27 not too shabby. Dylan had a great match against Jason Gray. If he could have just held on for 16 more second in the 3rd round without a take-down, he would have beat Jason Gray, a 2X 3A state Champ.

In Greco, Kyle placed second behind Kingshein who was out to avenge his lost from the day before. Dylan placed 1st in the A pool after a tough match against Niko Hughes and then lost to Chris Tripplet in the crossover finals match to place 2nd for the day.

I'd like to commend Gus for his willingness to get in some mat time and not be afraid to do it at a tough tournament! Gus has been training hard at USA Cobra and will be attending several more tournaments before the Freestyle & Greco season is over. He's also looking to attend some wrestling camps this summer. His hard work will be rewarded next season. Go Gus!

It was an outstanding weekend of wrestling. We watched some great Washington wrestlers going at it. This tournament is a qualifing tournament for the Washington National team. Kyle has qualified in both styles and Dylan has qualified in Greco.

08 Junior Greco & Freestyle Nationals
Greco
The bracketing gods have not been good to our Woodinville wrestlers.

Dylan went 1-2 losing to the Joshua Castellano of Illinois, 08 Fila Cadet National Greco Champion and winner of the OW wrestler Award, in the 3rd round of wrestling to eliminate him from the Greco tournament (at the Western Junior Regional tournament Dylan was eliminated by the 07 Fila Cadet National Champ & OW recipient, Cole Schmitt-Dylan loves to draw those National Champions).

But, Kyle's draw was even worse. He wrestled David Klingsheim, out of California, in the first round and Lillashawn Coleman from Illinois, ranked 20th in the nation in the 3rd round.

Junior-125 - Kyle Komata's place is unknown.

Match #3 Joshua Castellano (Illinois ) over C. Dylan Granard (Washington) Dec 7-0,5-3

Freestyle
Kyle was able to bounce back from Greco and do very well going five rounds in the Freestyle tournament.  Surviving five rounds in this caliber of a tournament speaks very highly of Kyle's wrestling talent and ability.

In the first round of wrestling, Dylan drew the same wrestler, Raymond Mathewson, he wrestled at NW Regionals in the Greco Finals and lost to (Mathewson from Hawaii -an 08 All-American in Greco). 157 wrestlers in the 140lbs freestyle bracket and Dylan draws a wrestler he's already wrestled and lost to!   Dylan's second loss came to a California wrestler, Vlad Dombrowski, who ended the tournament an All-American placing 6th.

Komata to wrestle on the Wa State Junior Dual team
Once again, Kyle has commited to wrestle on the Washington State Junior Dual Team.  Kyle has given up many weekends in June traveling to Battleground and Spokane to train with the best Junior level wrestlers in the state to compete on the Washington Dual Team.  He'll be traveling to Oklahoma City, on June 30th for a week of brutal competition.  Good Luck to our Washington State Junior Dual Team!  Go Kyle!

Washington State Junior National Team 08
Congratulations to Kyle Komata and Dylan Granard who will wrestle for the Washington State Junior National Team in Fargo, ND in July.

Freestyle state 08
Congratulations to WHS Wrestler Joah Fennell who place 7th in the Freestyle State Wrestling tournament.

Western Junior Regionals 08

Kyle Komata shined! In a tournament with the best wrestlers from around the country, Kyle brought home the 4th place medal in Freestyle and the 2nd place medal in Greco.  Kyle has arrived at the national level in Freestyle and Greco.  He's in the hunt to be a National All-American.  Go Kyle!!!!

Dylan had another rough freestyle tournament.  Cole Schmitt from Wisconsin, a Fila Cadet Greco Roman National Champion and the recipient of the Fila Cadet Greco-Roman Outstanding Wrestler Award in 07, stopped Dylan in his tracks and eliminated him from the tournament. But, for Dylan this wasn't about placing, this was about getting some tough mat time.  Mission accomplished!  Between the two tournaments, he wrestled 7 tough kids.  You don't improve by wrestling the easy kids, only by taking it to the next level and wrestling the tough kids. Good Luck at Freestyle State!

08 Washington State Greco-Roman Championship
Congratulations to our WHS Wrestlers who participated in the 2008 Washington State Greco-Roman Championship.  For a few of you this was your first Greco tournament ever!  Way to make us proud!!!

2008 NW Regionals Freestyle & Greco Championship
Congratulations to Kyle Komata and Dylan Granard for bringing home medals from the NW Regional Freestyle & Greco Championship in Battleground.

Kyle placed 2nd in Freestyle and 3rd in Greco at 125lbs.  His  only two losses came from the same wrestler out of California.  Kyle has qualified for the 2008 Washington Junior National team in both Freestyle and Greco.

After a bad showing in Freestyle, Dylan came back the next day for Greco and place 2nd, beating the Idaho wrestler he lost to the day before and an Oregon Wrestler who placed 3nd the day before in Freestyle.  Dylan also qualified for the the 2008 Washington Junior National team in Greco.  Dylan still needs to qualify in Freestyle at Western Junior Regionals in Las Vegas or at the Washington State Freestyle Tournament.
