General Rules - as of 07/30/2008

    1. The WHYBL “Shoot Out” program consists of separate “Hot Shot” and “Foul Shot” contests. There will be contests for the boy and girl divisions at the 3rd/4th , 5th/6th and 7th/8th grade levels.

    2. An organization involved in the WHYBL is eligible to participate in the Shoot Out Program at each of the divisions in which they have at least one team competing in the current WHYBL season. For each separate contest, “Hot Shot” and “Foul Shot”, the league will set the number of contestants each town can send after the number of teams have been finalized for the year. Each town is responsible for establishing and executing their own process for selecting their representatives.

    3. For each division that an organization is entering a competitor, the organization is required to have three representatives attend the contest to help run the program. One representative must be an adult and will act as an official scorer or judge. A representative may not act as a scorer or judge for a competitor from his or her own organization. The other two representatives will serve as ball assistants for the competitor from that organization.

    4. The competitors must check in by the scheduled cut off time.

    5. Competitors will compete two at a time, one at each end of the court. If there are an unequal number of competitors, the last session will have one competitor. The contestants will randomly draw for the order in which they will compete.

    6. Trophies will be awarded for first and second place. There will be no tie breakers.

    Hot Shot Competition

    1. Each competitor will begin at center court and has one minute to attempt to score as many points as possible by making baskets from various locations on the court that have been marked. Locations will have point values assigned by the difficulty of the shot. The start and end time for each competitor will be signaled.

    2. The competitor must dribble when moving with the ball. A one-point penalty will be deducted from the player’s final score for each time they travel with the ball.

    3. For shots other than lay-ups, the shooter must begin the shot with one foot on the floor marker.

    4. A shot must leave the competitors hand prior to the end of the time period to be a valid shot attempt.
    Hot Shot Competition continued
