I find myself writing this column just a few days before I officially take the helm of the York County Junior Girls Softball League. Some of the elected officers of the League have chosen to step down – some to pursue other interests and some to simply “slow down”. New officers were elected at the last League meeting and immediately went to work developing our fall ball season. I am proud to say that this work is almost complete and the fall ball season games will be ready to start in a few short days. On behalf of the League officers, I hope all the registered teams have an enjoyable fall ball season.
Our summer season ended just a few weeks ago, with what I must say was a very impressive outing. There were some 140 teams representing 1700 girls playing in our League. Several divisions went right down to the last few games to determine who would move to the Championship series. And the Championship’s provided some really good games. Congratulations to all who made it.
Additionally, some YCJGSL teams played in Tournaments sponsored by ASA and USSSA. York hosted an ASA Gold Tournament where you could see some of the best in the Country. And it seems to be growing. It seems as if more York County League teams are playing in the Shippensburg USSSA tournaments this fall, and I know more will travel to Williamsport for the indoor spring fling (which is really quite something).
I am proud to be involved in fast pitch softball, as a parent, assistant coach, umpire, spectator, and now league officer. I look forward to going to many fall games and am anxious to hear from you on how we can make our League a better experience for all involved.
