History
The Ypsilanti Panthers is the first and original Pop Warner Football and Cheer Program in Washtenaw County. We are aN active member in good standings with Pop Warner Little Scholars national organization and the Southeastern Michigan Pop Warner Football League.
We were founded in 2005 by several individuals who wanted to help area youth achieve higher self esteem and improve their health through the use of football and cheer. Our emphasis is strongly focused on academic excellence where by which all participants must meet and maintain a 2.5 GPA.
We require and challenge all of our participants to not only meet the Pop Warner Little Scholars academic goal, but to exceed that goal. Many of our children have done so. Since our beginning five years ago, we have had success on the field and in the class room. In the class room, many of our children have shown strong improvements in both attitude and grades.
We provide tackle football and cheerleading for kids age 5-15. There are 6 teams in our program: Tiny Mites 5-6, Mighty Mites 7-8, Jr. Pee Wee 9-10, Pee Wee 10-11, Jr. Midgets 11-12 and Midgets 13-15.
Our original goal was and still remains to provide the best environment to foster young minds, bodies and spirits. We believe that Pop Warner football delivers the right message.
In the Class Room: The Ypsilanti Panthers have had more the 200 participants achieve honor roll status at their respective schools. We have had more than 80 SEMPWFL Scholastic All Americans. From 2005-2008, we’ve had 13 Pop Warner 1st Team Regional Scholastic All Americans and 9 Pop Warner 2nd Team National All Americans.
On The Field: The Ypsilanti Panther have won 1 Jr. Pee Wee Cheer Championship, 1 Jr. Midget Football Championship, 3 Mighty Mite Football Championships, 1 Jr. Pee Wee Football Championship Runner-Up.
2009 SEASON
We are now entering our 5th season and poised to do bigger and better than ever. Our goals are set and we're focused and ready. We have many new volunteers who really believe strongly in our program and mission.
For the 2009 season, we've added a second Tiny Mite Team (40 TM's) and nearly every roster maxed out. Our total enrollment for 2009 has reached 200 participants.
With more than 35 football coaches and 5 Cheer coaches for the 2009 season, we are very optimistic. We have 25 cheeerleaders for the 2009 season and hopes are high that our girls will compete and perform well.
Our coaching staff for the 2009 season have continued follow the belief that all our children should be treated with fairness regardless of their current abilities.
These coaches are men and woman with strong integrity and will be committed to all our children and will support them equally.
