Mission Statement


History
The 21st Ward Junior League promotes all phases of baseball and softball to the Northwest section of Philadelphia (known as Roxborough) and the surrounding areas to all children regardless of race, color, creed, religion or nationality.
The League started in 1957 with 75 children and 1 baseball field, now 46 years later, has grown to over 1,000 children and 7 playing fields located at the Port Royal Complex and Hagy's Mill Road.
There are 52 baseball teams with approximately 200 coaches and an Advisory Board of 23. Softball has 25 teams with approximately 66 coaches and an Advisory Board of 10. All Advisory Board members and coaches are volunteers.

Purpose
The 21st Ward Junior League's purpose is to provide a community baseball and softball program that is safe and fun that promotes good sportsmanship, teamwork and respect for authority.
The League will make it possible for each child to realize his/her athletic potential at any level of competition.
As a League we will financially subsidize any child who wants to play baseball/softball.
As a League we will provide scholarships for citizenship and athletics to 10 boys and 10 girls graduating 8th grade.

Mission
The mission of the 21st Ward Junior League is to provide the facilities, community support and adult leadership to:
* Establish a baseball/softball League for all children in the 7-18 age group.
* Provide instruction, fundamentals and the know how to play competitively.
* Provide the players the knowledge of how to work as a team, exhibit good sportsmanship and show respect for their teammates and authority.
* Provide the necessary leadership and support for teams to compete successfully in tournament play.
