I cannot think of anything more rewarding in life than helping children who have unique and special needs. Marty Delaney's Adaptive Lacrosse Program is an amazing effort that helps children build self esteem, share the gifts of joy and laughter, and learn the wonderful game of lacrosse in a caring, nurturing, and compassionate environment. This program is truly a living symbol of everything that is good and hopeful in our community and the world we live in.

I first became aware of the program as I was producing a segment for the TV show Behind Lacrosse several years ago. We put together a 5-minute story about this amazing team. And basically, I fell in love with these guys and have been volunteering ever since. I’ve worked with kids and coached lacrosse in many settings, but nothing really compares to serving this community. They are an easy bunch to work with and the families and friends that come out to support Marty’s dream make you feel included immediately. We are one team with many personalities, gifts and needs but with a common goal to serve each other. Anything we give to these young athletes is returned a hundred times over.

I am honored to be associated with the Parkville Adaptive Youth Lacrosse Program. After spending time with Coach Delaney and the young players, it is clear that something very special is happening in this program, and one's like it. As the Head Men's Lacrosse Coach of the CCBC-Essex Knights, it is great to see the love for the game of lacrosse that the Parkville players have, and how that love of the game is being fostered by the Parkville Coaching Staff. We look forward to helping the Parkville Adaptive Program for many years to come in any way we can!

I am the parent of Dave, the player pictured. We both love the program that Coach Marty has developed. Dave & I have created sports leagues in the past, so when we found an Adapted Lacrosse, and met Coach Marty, Dave decided immediately that he had to play with Coach, and I felt that I had to get involved to help the program and Coach in any way I could. Marty worked very hard during the off-season, adapting the stick for my son, He came to visit several times to make sure the stick length would work for Dave. During Dave’s first season we recruited more of his friends, with and without wheelchairs. Coach Marty and his assistant coaches came up with exercises and practice skills that would help the players. I can honestly say that I never saw any player left out of any of the drills, practice games, and the team camaraderie. The lessons learned on the field transfer so smoothly into the players’ lives off the field. Thank You Coach!

What a FANTASTIC GAME!

Thank you for everything- Bradley is a different boy since he started with your team! The confidence he gained has allowed him to go on to other sports and relate so much better to his friends.

Please pass along our many thanks to everyone for us!

As the grandfather of Cole, an Adaptive Lacrosse athlete, I can attest to the enthusiastic spirit, benefits and joy that Cole derives from participation in this rewarding program. It allows him to consider himself as an athlete equal to his brother and sister, both of whom have practices, games, uniforms and trophies from their teams -- and now he has all that too!! And Cole actively interacts with those both more and less handicapped than himself, and eagerly joins in the warm-ups, drills and “games” he and his teammates play. Cole certainly looks forward to the lacrosse season each Spring.

As a bystander I found it difficult to just stand around and watch you and your volunteers work their “magic” with the Adaptive Lacrosse athletes. So now I too am a “coach”. It is gratifying indeed to work with these youngsters and join in their determination to succeed at whatever level each is capable of achieving. And to be a part of the huge smiles, outbursts and utter thrills when one of the more severely challenged players maneuvers down the field and scores a goal or makes a good defensive play is heartwarming indeed. My life is richer for having the privilege of being a part of this program. Best of luck to all your athletes in the future. Their efforts and achievements are truly exceptional!!
