BCYL Minors Defeated Amelia

BCYL Minors show steps into making TOUCHDOWNS

The Buckingham County Youth League Minors football team went into Amelia and defeated the Raiders 22-0 to advance to the James River District Championship game. They will be defending their JR District title against the Prince Edward Eagles. Due to losing against the Eagles twice this 2016 season, the Knights will enter the District Championship in 2nd Place in the James River District. The first game against the Eagles was a 6-0 loss for the Knights in a defensive battle at Gene Dixon Park. The second game was a 7-6 loss where the Knights could have won but missed on the 2 point conversion to win the game. The BCYL Minors look to come away with the game that really matter this upcoming weekend.

Minors Shut Out Patriots

BCYL Minors Captains want to defend that end of the field

The Buckingham County Youth League Minors team hosted the Charlotte County Patriots this weekend. The game was postponed from Saturday to Sunday due to the excessive amount of water that fell on the field from Hurricane Matthew. The last time the Minors Knights played the Patriots, the Knights won 38-6 at Randolph Henry High School the second game of the season.

In the second quarter the Minors Knights added two more touchdowns and converting on the 2-point conversions the Knights took a 28-0 lead going into the halftime. The 3rd and 4th quarter of the game, the Knights defense took over by not allowing the Patriots to score. Another Close Battle

The 4-1 Buckingham County Youth League Minors teams have won three straight games and a forfeit game because Cumberland didn't field a Minors team this year. The only loss was against the PEFYA Eagles Minors the first game of the season at Gene Dixon Park. In that game the young Knights fell 0-6 in a heart felt loss to start the season. How was this game going to play out after the weeks of practice to get ready.

Coach Toney pumping up the team before the game starts

The game started off with both teams stepping up on defense. Even though it look as if the Knights was moving the ball at times, the Eagles would tighten up on the "D" to take over on downs. The Knights had a long TD run called back because a penalty and the Eagles defense got the ball back to keep the score 0-0.

Late in the 4th quarter the Eagles scored and converted on the 1 point PAT to take a 7-0 lead late in the game. But the Knights rallied back with a long run TD run of their own with the clock running out of the game. The only thing left was to convert on the PAT. The Knights elected to win the game by going for the 2 points instead of the 1 point to tie the game and play in overtime. The kick fell short and the Knights ended taking the 6-7 loss to the Eagles.

Its the socks that makes him run real fast.

The next game for the BCYL Minors will be Oct. 8, 2016 as the Knights will host the Charlotte County Patriots at Gene Dixon Park. Check listings for game time.
