Play Ball! (2011)

The 2011 Baseball Season is now in full swing. Info for the 2011 Tournaments is still coming in for this year. As for last year, we had some strong teams come out of District 5. Fairfield 12U & Skowhegan 11U each made it to the New England Regional Tournaments. Fairfield 10U made it to States, along with Skowhegan 9U & Fairfield 9U. Good luck to all in 2011.

Let the Tournaments Begin...

And away we go... The first All-Star Tournaments of the 2011 season begin this weekend with the District Level Tournaments. Our own District 5 Tourneys (12U & 10U) begin Thursday and will be hosted this year by Skowhegan (Carl Wright Baseball Complex).

Skowhegan Teams Sweep District 5 Tounaments

Congratulations to the Skowhegan 12 & Under and 10 & Under Teams who each won their respective Tournaments over this past weekend. (You can find all Game Results in the ‘Main Menu’ to the left).
Good luck to the Skowhegan teams as they move on to the State Tournaments starting on July 9th.
More info will follow on all the State Tournaments including the 11U & 9U Teams who start the week after the 12 & 10’s

Waterville 10U Team Wins Invitational Tournament

Congratulations to the Waterville 10U team who went undefeated, outscoring opponents 54-3, to win the Farmington Elks All-Stars Tournament this past weekend.

Skowhegan 12U Wins State Championship

July 12, 2011
District 5's Skowhegan 12U team went undefeated in the State Tournament held this past weekend at the Richard McGee Athletic Complex in Fairfield. This seasoned team defeated Gorham 6-1 on Tuesday evening to capture the State Title. They will now advance to the New England Regional Tournament in Marboro, MA starting July 23rd. This is the 4th year in a row for this team to win a State Title. Nice job guys and good luck at Regionals!

Skowhegan 12U is in Marlboro, Massachusetts for the New England Regionals which begins today. Also going on this weekend are the 11U & 9U Maine State Tounaments (Mechanic Falls & Cornish). Cental Maine teams include: Fairfield 11U & 9U, Messalonskee 11U, Skowhegan 9U.

Cal Ripken Baseball 2011 Season Recap

The Last Cal Ripken Baseball Tournament of the 2011 season (12U, 70’) ended on August 21st at the Ripken Youth Academy in Aberdeen, Maryland. Here is a rundown of the results of all the Cal Ripken Tournaments (related to us here in Maine, at least) for this season (click on “Tournaments” from the Main Menu for more details):
District 5 Tournaments:
12U (Skowhegan):• Winner: Skowhegan (4-0)

12U (Fairfield):• Winner: Skowhegan (4-0) (4th consecutive state title for this team: 9U in 2008, 10U in 2009, 11U in 2010, & 12U in 2011)

12U (w/70 foot base paths) (Aberdeen, MD):(Note: No teams from Maine, Vermont or Rhode Island entered this division in 2011)
• Winner (World Champion (& International Champ)): Japan (International Invitational Team) (5-0, 2-0, 1-0)
Summary: After a 90 minute rain delay to start the game, Japan captured the 2011 Cal Ripken World Series crown with a 7-0 shutout victory over the Ohio Valley Regional Champions from Southeastern Lexington, KY. This is the first time Japan has won the title since the Cal Ripken World Series has been held at the Ripken Youth Baseball Academy, which began in 2003.
• Runner-up (USA Champion): Southeastern Lexington, Kentucky (Ohio Valley Regional Champion) (3-1, 2-0, 0-1)
• New England Team: Hudson, NH (1-3, Pool Play only)
