Monaca Sportsman start fast in victory over Beaver Falls

Monaca Sportsman came out to play in their opening game of the 2009 BCYBL playoffs vs. Beaver Falls Enelows. Sportsman jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings and held on for an 8-2 victory at Monaca. BJ Powell, Brian Fleming and Danny Pollack had key hits and the trio of Chris Stitt, Brett Kovach and Pollack shut down Enelows high powered offense. Sportsman move on to play Rochester Murphy's Monday at 8pm.

Sportsman survive to play another day.

Sportsman scored early and often on their way to a 14-4, 5 inning victory over the Beaver Law Dogs. Chris Stitt's 3-run home run to center field started the scoring. After a single by Brett Kovach, BJ Powell laced a ball down the right field line and the race was on. Kovach scored and Powell kept running, sliding into home right behind Kovach and ahead of the relay throw for an exciting inside-the-park home run. Brian Fleming had a big two-run single and Bryce Hoenig ended the game with a two-run single. Monaca faces South Beaver on Wednesday at Monaca at 8PM.

Championship run ends for Monaca Sportsman

Monaca's chance for a third straight BCYBL Little League championship fell short Wednesday night as South Beaver Elko scored six runs in the seventh inning to defeat Monaca 9-3. A fifth inning home run by Andy Broniszewski, his first career homer, put Monaca up 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth. But the hard-hitting South Beaver team tied the game in the sixth 3-3. They then held Monaca scoreless in the sixth after the first two batters reached base. South Beaver then put up six runs in the seventh to put the game away. Congratulations Sportsmans on a great season.
