Fundraising

October 28, 2022

For the last couple of seasons, NEMHA has been doing a fundraiser at the beginning of the season to help offset some costs that are incurred during the season. As well as providing upgrades to our equipment and other items within our association (new jerseys, offsetting ice time costs, etc). We had a successful fundraiser last year to start the season, and this year we are doing a 50/50 fundraiser. These tickets have started to be dispersed. Each child that is registered for minor hockey paid an additional $20 on top of their registration to cover the cost of one booklet of 10 tickets ($2/ticket). You can decide what you would like to do with these tickets. Whether you want to write your own family’s name on them, or sell them to recoup your $20 cost. Either way, NO money needs to be returned to the association for this, as it has already been paid forAll ticket stubs can be returned to your coaches or dropped to the NE office by Friday, December 9th. If you are dropping them off at the NE office, please provide info on the ticket stubs with regards to what team you are associated with, as ticket numbers will be assigned to each child. This needs to be done for tracking purposes.

To the coaches/managers of All-Star/ Development teams that wished to avail of extra 50/50 tickets that we had a surplus of, please reach out if you have not done so already, so that we can make those extra tickets available to your team.

Additionally, we have some upcoming Growlers hockey dates at Mary Browns Centre. Our first date being December 11. We will post more information about that in the near future, but be sure to save the date!

Should you have any questions, please reach out to Joelene Hiscock via: cfs@neeagles.com

NEMHA U13 House League Update

November 17, 2020

This year has provided some unique challenges and opportunities and as a result we have had an opportunity to adapt our U13 house league program. We have decided to make the following changes for this year only:

1. We will not be participating in the Interlocking House League (IHL) with other associations.

2.  We will be tiering our house league into two 4 team tiers.

We believe these changes will benefit the greatest number of players by providing a competitive league with more puck touches and player engagement which leads to more player development for all.

We will be doing one more evaluation skate on Sunday, November 22nd after which kids will be dividend into two 4 team tiers and a draft will take place.

As always, we ask for your patience and support as we adapt to this ever-changing landscape.

October 30, 2020

NEMHA Player evaluations will continue this Sunday, November 1, 2020 and next Sunday, November 8, 2020 with games. Each of the final four U11 All-star teams will be composed of 11 skaters and 1 goaltender, as follows:
U11A TEAM BLACK - 11 skaters + 1 goaltender

NEMHA 2019-2020 Season Update

March 12, 2020

Today's news of the minor hockey season cancellation across our country was an emotional piece of news to deliver and accept.

Players, coaches, officials, parents and all other stakeholders have yet to fully process what has transpired in such short time.

The cancellation of minor hockey and other activities is necessary for general public health and wellness as we cope with the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.

The required steps to properly close our season are tasks that the NEMHA board have already begun but will require time to plan and fully complete.

Please allow some time for us to work through this process.

We will provide updates as pertinent information becomes available.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

NEMHA 2020-2021 Season Update

September 11, 2020

NEMHA is looking forward to welcoming all players, coaches, officials, volunteers and families back to the new 2020/21 season around the corner!

While we are still working on the finer details, our goal this season is to deliver a hockey program that resembles a normal year while adhering to Sport Guidance measures from the Chief Medical Officer of Newfoundland & Labrador.

To ensure we get back on the ice as safely as possible in early October, Hockey NL requires each association to create a Return to Hockey Plan that details how we will return to the game and follow required COVID-19 protocols. NEMHA’s Return to Hockey Plan is nearing completion and we intend to submit to Hockey NL soon.

As we return to the rink, there will be some different guidelines this season that we must follow. We will be required to physically distance, carry good hygiene and wear a mask, and keep track of everyone who attends our activities so we have necessary records. NEMHA will conduct volunteer training and participant orientation sessions to help everyone understand what is different this season. These activities and other measures will be new to us all, but we can make the season successful for all involved if we work together.

On the ice, our program will look a little different first starting out. We will have skills-and-drills-only sessions to begin the season to allow our players time to adjust to being back with their hockey friends in the rink atmosphere while demonstrating adherence to guidelines. We will group players and coaches in like-skilled cohorts and ‘bubbles’ centered around 2-line teams so that 5-on-5 play is possible when we demonstrate we are ready.  These 2-line teams will then return to league and regional play once approved by Hockey NL.

While we are not quite ready to open our player registration for the season, we hope to have a speedy enrollment of players when registration begins.  This will help us plan our schedules and create our like-skilled player cohorts. Because of the requirements around having players only in one ‘bubble’ this season, it is important to note we will implement an early registration cut-off date for the top-tiers (i.e. all-star and developmental) players in each division that will make up the several cohorts that would eventually return to league and regional play later in the season.

Our Call for Coaches/Assistant Coaches/Team Staff is open for the season, with training and orientation for this group scheduled for Thursday, September 24, 2020. The dates for these sessions for other volunteers and participants will be announced later. Coaches are the front-lines of our association, and the most integral piece to our player's season success. We look forward to working with our many volunteers to make this season rewarding for all involved.

As we move through the next few weeks of our planning, more communications will follow to help guide you through the next steps toward our season startup.

We look forward to seeing everybody back at the rink again soon!

NEMHA
