Brief History of the AFCSL
America’s Finest City Softball League (“AFCSL”) was formed in 1981 as a place for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and/or Transgender people to come together and play softball. Over the years and with its continued growth, the AFCSL is now a place for all to come and have fun, meet new people, and enjoy the game of softball in an inviting and congenial atmosphere. As a sporting organization, our intention through our league rules and regulations is general safety first with spirited competition and comraderie a close second.
Softball in San Diego is a year round sport. As such, AFCSL host its first, more competitive season each year in the Spring, with a more relaxed season conducted each Fall. It also is the proud host of the Autumn Classic Tournament, which takes place annually over the Columbus Day weekend each October.
The AFCSL is a member of the North American Amateur Athletic Association (NAGAAA-www.nagaaasoftball.org), which is the host organization for the annual Gay Softball World Series (GSWS) and the Amateur Sports Alliance of North America (ASANA-www.asanasoftball.com), which is the host organization for the annual Women's Softball World Series. San Diego was the proud host city for the GSWS national tournament both in 1997 and 2005.
As a voluntary participation organization, the AFCSL is not responsible for forming teams for play. Our new player recruitment days are intended as an introduction for new players to softball and to the AFCSL.
