ALTOONA CURVE GAME

Although the Curve lost to the Baysoxs the Dapper Dan Yankees had a great time in Altoona on Sunday August 3rd.  The team was treated to an on the field catch prior to the game and was paraded around the warning track as all fans in attendance were told who we were and what our season record was not to mention League Champions.  Trent Groves was given the opportunity to throw out the first pitch representing the team.  After the game there were fireworks and the players were able to run the bases.  Thanks for those that helped put this together for the 2008 Yankees.

YANKEES WIN 2008 MINOR LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

Yankees Win Championship with 13-4 Victory Over Astros
The Yankees beat the Astros 13-4 Tuesday evening at Long Field winning the Minor League Championship.  This is the second straight title for the Yanks as they were undefeated in 16 games this season.  The two year record for the team is 30-2.  Carter Funk was again the winning pitcher as he pitched the first three innings in which he struck out four batters, gave up five hits, two base on balls and only two runs.  John Ackerman made his first appearance of the series as he pitched the final three frames and allowed two runs on three hits, while striking out eight, and walking two.  At the plate the Yankees heated up there bats as they unloaded for twenty one hits of which over half came from the first three spots in the line-up.  For the evening John Ackerman hit for the cycle collecting a home run, triple, double, and single while scoring three runs.  JT Stevenson scored twice and hit three singles and a home run while Ronnie Conner had three singles from his lead off spot.  Other top hitters in the line-up were Kyleigh Sellers with a double and two singles; Trent Groves a double and one single each from Blake Rhodes, Zac Lee, Ryan Muir, Devon Hazelton, Tyson Todd, and Dom Mazzeo.  For the Astros Daniel Hott hit a double and single; Noah Weber two singles; Caleb Harden a double; and one single each from Nick Stumbaugh, Conner Brode, and Cameron Bolinger.  Congratulations to the Yankees on such a fine season and best of luck to the players that will move on to the Major Leagues next season. After the game all the players were given their Dapper Dan Championship Trophies by commissioner Adam Sterne.  Following the on field presentations the Team took Championship photos and each player was given a game ball to recognize each one of them for their contribution to this season.  In a surprise presentation it was the players who presented Coach Scott with the actual game ball to commemorate this championship.  I want to thank each and every one of you for honoring me!  As this season comes to an end it is the last time you will play together as one unit.  This team of Ronnie Conner, JT Stevenson, John Ackerman, Carter Funk, Blake Rhodes, Zac Lee, Ryan Muir, Kyleigh Sellers, Trent Groves, Dom Mazzeo, Tyson Todd, and Devon Hazelton can always share the title of 2008 Dapper Dan Minor League Champs.

Yankees Take Game One of Championship From Astros 14-1
The Yankess came out on Monday evening at Long Field and took game one of the Championship Series 14-1 from the Astros.  Carter Funk looked impressive on the mound as he struck out eight, walked three, and only gave up one hit resulting in no runs.  Ronnie Conner took the mound in the fourth and struck out one batter gave up a hit and one run in sealing the game for the Yankees.  At the Plate Carter Funk smashed a triple and single while John Ackerman and Ryan Muir hit a double and single.  Third baseman Blake Rhodes contributed a double while JT Stevenson, Tyson Todd, and Kyleigh Sellers each had singles.  For the Astros Caleb Harden hit two doubles.  The Yankees will try to win game two on Tuesday evening at Long Field with the first pitch slated for 7:00.

Stevenson, Muir, Groves, and Conner Help Lead Dapper Dan 7-8 All Stars to Second Place Finish
As Yankee Coach Artie Conner assisted on the coaching staff for the Dapper Dan 7-8 year old All Star team Yankee players JT Stevenson, Ryan Muir, Trent Groves and Ronnie Conner help lead the squad to a second place finish in the PVAA Tournament.  The team won three out of five games and lost to host PVAA in the Championship Game.  JT Stevenson finished with a tournament average of .688 and showed excellent field play in Right Center and Third Base.  Ronnie Conner batted .600 and played excellent in Left Field.  Ryan Muir finished with an average of .625 and played multiple positions including Pitcher position, second base, and Right field.  Trent Groves surprised many as he played an outstanding first base in the first two games and then continued with excellent play in left center field.  He completed the tournament with an average of .714.  JT and Ronnie were named to the  12 player All Tournament Team.  Congratulations to all the Yankee players and Coach on a successful performance.  It was the best finish for the Dapper Dan 7-8 All Stars in this Tournament

Spessard Honored as Yankee Liason to Hagerstown
Jerry Spessard is being honored as our liason to Hagerstown, MD as he continues to share the website with our neighbors to the East.  Jerry has a son who will be entering his final year of elgibility on the University of Maryland Baseball Team and remembers the years of participation in Little League.  Jerry enjoys keeping up with the website and has noted he likes the music but not when we put on heavy metal.  Thanks Jerry for your support.

Yankees Beat Cubs 19-0 To Advance to Championship Series
The Yankees won their second playoff game and advanced to the Championship Series with a 19-0 victory over the Cubs Saturday eveining at Long Field.  The Yankee bats rebounded from a poor performance against the Indians to pound out 13 hits.  On the mound Carter Funk pitched three innings of no hit ball striking out 7 before giving way to John Ackerman in the fourth who came in and wiffed three Cub hitters.  On the Day the Yanks staff only gave up one single.  For the Yankees John Ackerman collected a home run, triple, and single; Blake Rhodes a home run and single; JT Stevenson a home run; Zac Lee a home run; Kyleigh Sellers a home run; Trent Groves a double; Ryan Muir a double, Carter Funk two singles; and Ronnie Conner one single.  The Yankees have now reached the Championship Series after a year of working hard to get to the finals.  We will be in a tough contest as we will be faced against the Astros who beat the Rangers 12-2.  The Series is set to be played on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (if needed) with all games starting at 7:00.  The team is to be at the field by 5:45 on Monday.

Yankees Survive Game Against Indians 10-8
The Yankee season was in jeopardy at Long Field on Thursday evening as the team struggled to get anything going offensively leaving the bases loaded in both the first and second inning.  When the team does not score runs it always puts pressure on the pitching staff and Carter Funk responded by striking out 8 batters in 2 2/3 innings before giving way to Ronnie Conner with the bases loaded in the Third.  Ronnie came in and after getting comfortable got a ground out to Carter Funk at short who made the put out at third base.  In the Forth Ronnie again took the mound and did an outstanding job allowing the Yankees to get 8 runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 10-2 advantage.  Yankee Manager Scott Stevenson went to John Ackerman to close the game in the fifth however Jeet could not find the groove and was taken out after 2/3 of an inning with bases loaded and the score 10-6.  JT Stevenson took the hill and walked in the first two batters before getting the number three hitter in the Indians order to line softly to John at first ending the game in favor of the Yanks 10-8.  At the Plate for the Yankees Kyleigh Sellers hit a triple and single.  The only other hits in the game for the Yankees were singles by JT Stevenson and Trent Groves.  The Indians only had one hit on the day off the bat of Colten Dilley in the fifth.  One game ball was given to Kyleigh Sellers for her performance at the plate.  After reviewing the game I have also decided to give a gameball to JT for coming in when the game was headed in the wrong direction and having the ability to do his best and get the game to end in the Yankees favor.  Sometimes fathers overlook their own kids!  I realized that any boy put in that situation could have had a difficult time but he and the Yankees were able to overcome defeat and move on to the next round.  Next game will be Saturday at 5:00 against the Cubs at Long Field.  The team is asked to be there at 3:45.

Post Season Begins Thursday
The Yankees are set to begin their post season on Thursday evening at 5:30 agaist the Indians at Long Field.  All players are requested to arrive at the field no later than 4:25.

Yankees Finish Regular Season with 24-1 Win Over Indians
The Yankees finished the regular season with a victory over the Indians 24-1.  The entire team played well as Carter Funk earned the win on the mound.  Carter had three innings left in his weeks pitching and pitched three perfect innings striking out seven, walking three, and giving up no hits and no runs.  After Carter completed his innings Kyleigh Sellers and JT Stevenson finished the fouth inning giving up one run and one hit.  The Yanks got great field play by Ronnie Conner who made four plays in the field at shortstop.  At the plate the Yankee bats were again hot as John Ackerman smashed a triple to deep right center field, a ground rule double in which the ball hit the cross ties on the fly at the bottom of the fence causing the ball to bounce over the fence, and a single.  Carter Funk hit two sharply hit balls that went to the fence for triples.  Zac Lee hit the ball hard to the left side of the diamond for a double and single while Trent Groves, Ryan Muir, JT Stevenson, and Ronnie Conner each collected two singles.  Rounding out the hits for the Yanks were Blake Rhodes, Tyson Todd, Devon Hazelton and Dom Mazzeo each contributing one single.  The Yankees will now begin the second part of their season and enter post season playoffs.  The Yankee first game has yet to be set but appears to be either the 15th or 17th of June.

Yankee Players Contrubute to Dapper Victory over Dans
Yankee players Ronnie Conner, JT Stevenson, John Ackerman, Carter Funk, Blake Rhodes, and Zac Lee were on the winning Dapper Team verses the Dans last evening at Long Field.  All of the Yankees played three innings for the victors.  At the plate John Ackerman and JT Stevenson collected a double and base on balls each while Carter Funk started the game on the mound and got credit for the win.  Ackerman scored twice and drove in Jordon Warner with his double while Stevenson scored two runs.  Carter Funk walked and scored and got credit for an RBI as Jordon Warner scored on Carters base on balls.  Total runs accounted by Yankee players were 7 out of the teams total 9.  Big blast for the Dappers was off the bat of Mets infielder Johnny Kincaid as he went deep and rounded the bases for a home run.  Final score was 9-3 in favor of the Dappers.  Congratulations to all the players.

Yankees display fireworks against Nationals
In a pre fourth of July game the Yanks displayed some fireworks of their own by pounding out 21 hits and scoring twenty three runs against the Nationals on Thursday evening.  The Nationals starter Tylee Powell started the game throwing with good velocity however the Yankee hitters were just sitting on his fastball and touched him up for six hits and 10 runs prior to him being lifted late in the first inning.  The Yankee winning pitcher Carter Funk pitched three innings of no hit baseball striking out nine batters in earning the victory.  At the plate JT Stevenson hit two doubles and a single, John Ackerman a double and two singles, Carter Funk a double and two singles, Ronnie Conner three singles, and Zac Lee two singles.  Rounding out the hits for the Yankees were singles from Blake Rhodes, Kyleigh Sellers, Tyson Todd, Ryan Muir, and Trent Groves.  After the game the team enjoyed pizza and fireworks and we would like to thank all the parents for assisting in the evening and a special thanks to coach Artie for purchasing and displaying the fireworks.  The Yanks final game of the season is set for Monday July 7 at 6:00 against the Indians at Al Abrams.

Meet the Yankee All Stars
The Yankees named the following six member of their undefeated team to the Minor League All Star Team.
John Ackerman is the teams current leading hitter batting .850 with 34 hits in 40 at bats.  He has also done a great job on the mound pitching 22 innings giving up 6 runs and only 5 hits while striking out 53 batters.
JT Stevenson is the teams second leading hitter currently batting .750 getting 30 hits in 40 at bats.  JT has been solid in the field and has had a couple stints on the mound this season.
The Yankees third leading hitter is Carter Funk who has had 21 hits in 35 plate appearences for a .600 average.  More importanty to his hitting Funk has pitched a total of 21 innings while striking out 49 batters.
Blake Rhodes the Yankee thrid baseman is hitting .588 getting 20 hits in 34 at bats.  Blake has also taken the mound this season and has played great at third base.
Zac Lee is the only 10 year old on the Roster and has played the outfield since suffering an injury which forced him out from behind the plate.  The injury has healed so he expects to see more time behind the dish.  At the plate Zac has hit .517 from the six spot in the order going 15 for 29 and drawing 15 walks.
Ronnie Conner is the Yankee starting shortstop and the third pitcher on the team and has hit .455 getting 15 hits in 33 at bats.  On the mound Ronnie has recorded 22 strike outs in 13 innings pitched.

Yankees WALK away with 13-8 win over the Braves
In a game in which the Yankees never really got going the home team Braves hit, ran, and fielded their way almost to a victory over the visitors.  The one downfall for the Braves was the fifth inning when their pitching stalled and they walked nine batters and gave up 10 runs in allowing the Yankees to total 13 runs to their 8 giving the team in stripes their tenth victory and clinching the regular season championship.  For the Yankees Blake Rhodes started the game and gave up five runs.  Ronnie Conner pitched an inning and John Ackerman came on an finished the game giving up three runs.  Conner struck out two batter while John struck out seven.  At the plate John Ackerman smashed two doubles, Carter Funk a triple and single, and Ronnie Conner two singles.  Rounding out the hitting for the Yankees Blake Rhodes had a single, Ryan Muir a single and JT Stevenson a single.  In the field Carter Funk did an outstanding job making a couple of key defensive plays while at first base.  Dom Mazzeo showed extreme drive behind the plate and in the batters box while fighting off a stomach flu.  For the Braves Jordan Warner hit a triple and single, Haden Dehaven a double and single, and Nate Green a double.  The Yankees will be at it a gain on Thursday July 3rd at 7:30 against the Nationals at Long Field.  We would like to buy pizza following the game for the entire team!

The Funk Report
After waking up for days with a temperature, after days feeling weak, and after days wondering what the heck is wrong Local Doctors were able to determine that the Yankees Pitcher and Utility Player Carter Funk has pneumonia.  Yes after all of us concerned teammates and friends watched this young man give it his all it took at least a week to determine the cause of all the symptoms.  Carter is currently on meds to rid the illness from his system and has hopes of being ready to participate Friday against the Braves.  We all wish Carter a speady recovery and we are all glad he is on the mend.

Yanks Defeat Astros
In a game that matched the first place Yankees against the second place Astros both teams knew that pitching and hitting was going to be the key factors.  Both teams got the pitching and hitting however the Yankees were able to capitalize on good fielding as they were able to come up big on the diamond and cause the Astros to strand 12 runners on the day as they went on to defeat the Astros 12-2.  On the mound for the Yanks Carter Funk got credit for the win as he pitched the first inning recording two strike outs while giving up no runs.  Carter removed himself from the mound in the second as he felt fatigue due to his lingering virus.  Ronnie Conner then approached the hill and pitched the second giving up no runs.  Ronnie started the third but gave the ball to John Ackerman who completed the game while striking out five batters.  Leading hitters for the Yankees were John Ackerman with a home run and three doubles.  Blake Rhodes, JT Stevenson, and Carter Funk had two singles while Ronnie Conner, Zac Lee, Tyson Todd, and Ryan Muir each added a single. Kaleb Harden and Conner Brode shared the pitching duties for the Astros and did an excellent job while at the plate Daniel Hott collected two singles.  The Yankess will be in action this Friday at 7:30 against last years runner up Braves at Flynn Field.

Jeet Plays for Redbirds
John Ackerman entered the Phillies and Cardinal game in the bottom of the first after a lightning storm forced one of the Cardinal players to go home thinking the game will be cancelled.  For the night John ended up playing all six innings in which he walked twice, scored a run, and went down swinging against one of the leagues better pitchers in Brandon Stotler.  The Cards won the game 6-3.

Yankees Come From Behind To Beat Angels 19-9
After spotting the Angels 9 runs in the first inning the Yankees were able to score nineteen in the final three innings of play and defeat the Angels by the 10 run mercy rule.  Carter Funk started the game and gave up seven runs on seven walks before turning the pitching duties over to Ronnie Conner who gave up a double scoring an additional two runs.  Ronnie then got a strike out to stop the bleeding as the Yankees were now faced with a tremendous challenge as the Angels were riding high and full of emotion.  In the bottom of the first the Yankee bats were non existant as we were able to load the bases on tree walks but could produce no runs.  In the second inning Ronnie pitched extremely well in walking two but striking out the side.  In the bottom half of the second the bottom of the order was able to get bases loaded and score one run on a walk and three others on a John Ackerman bases clearing single.  Now with runs on the board the Yanks gave the ball to Ronnie to start the third but after a strike out and single we turned the duties over to John Ackerman who came in and struck out the next two batters.  In the bottom of the third the Yanks fired up their bats as the team was able to produce 11 runs on six hits.  In the forth the Yanks held the Angels scoreless and plated another four to win by the ten run rule.  For the evening Carter Funk redeemed himself on the mound as he slugged a home run that produce three important runs, John Ackerman smacked two singles, Blake Rhodes a triple, while getting one single was JT Stevenson, Zac Lee, Tyson Todd, and Trent Groves.   For the Angels Mike Snyder hit a double and single while Blake Beal and Noah Steckman collected one single each.  Yankee pitchers recorded 11 strikeouts while the Angels pitching staff struck out six Yankees.  The Yankees begin the final stretch and toughest part of the schedule as they face the Astros on Tuesday at Al Abrams.  All Yankee players and fans should be prepared as the final four games of the year will have playoff implications and will play a huge roll in final seeding.  I hope this team as turned the corner and can realize that what they did tonight is a true sign of a team that can get the job done.

Ackerman Leads Way as Yankees Outlast Mets at Abrams 15-4
June 18, 2008 The Yankees overcame a slow start and beat the Mets 15-4 Tuesday evening at Al Abrams field.  The Yankee pitching staff had to work together to overcome several walks on the day and team together for actually a no hitter although they gave up four runs on 12 walks.  Carter Funk pitched the first 1/3 inning and was releaved by JT Stevenson who was able to complete the final 2/3 of the first inning.  JT started the second inning and pitched 1/3 of the inning before giving way to John Ackerman who completed the inning and finished the third compiling 5 strikeouts.  In the fourth Ronnie Conner came on and finished the game striking out three batters.  On the day the pitching staff struck out 12 batters which was actually every out recorded.  In the second inning with the score 4-4 John Ackerman broke open the game with a Grand Slam home run giving the Yankees some breathing room.  Ackerman finished the day with the home run, double and single.  Other leading hitters on the day were Blake Rhodes with two triples and Ryan Muir with a double.  Recording one single each were Carter Funk and JT Stevenson who was also hit by 3 pitches on the day.  The team showed enthusiasm and hustle on and off the field and gutted out the victory.  The next game for the Yanks will be at 5:30 at Long Field as they take on the Angels.

Yankees Beat Red Sox 12-3 on Fathers Day Afternoon Game

Yankees Thank Western Maryland Central Labor Council,AFL-CIO For a Great Day at The Yard
The Dapper Dan Yankees were treated to a fantastic Day at Oriole Park At Camden Yards on Friday evening June 13th as the Orioles played against the Pittsburgh Pirates.  The team were guest of Western Maryland Central Labor Council AFL-CIO and was coordinated with Jody Oliver and we would like to thank the council and all who donated toward the trip and a special thank you to Jody for thinking of our Little League team.  The bus trip down and back, the meal at Golden Coral, and the Game were perfect as the players represented the Dapper Dan, The Yankees, their families, and most importantly themselves to the highest standard.  The Orioles pulled off the victory over the Pirates as Dom Mazzeo and the rest of the crew got some credit for the win as they helped get the crowd to do the wave and inspire the Birds to victory.  This was actually the first Major League game attended by some of our kids and I know it made an impression that will last a lifetime.  Thanks again to all who participated in the great day. Photos of the day are in the photo file section of the site.

Proud to be Considered a Melting Pot
June 6, 2008 This is just a short note to all the friends of the Yankees that have called, emailed, or commented on the recent association with the term Yankees and Melting Pot as posted on another teams website.  We should take this as a compliment  to the Dapper Dan for allowing players to come to our league and participate.  In fact we have a great league and our kids will learn this great game of baseball from our league.    We all can see that the Yankees have three out of town players but for the record all the teams have out of town players as anyone who lives outside of the city limits is actually out of town.  I want to tell each one of you that no matter where you live we are a team, and a team that plays by the rules of the league.  In fact it takes more time to find out info about players that do not live and currently play in Cumberland than it would if the Yankees only looked at players currently in the T-Ball system.  The Yankees have tried to even have a young player come up and be a bat boy each year to help with their ability and have a year advancement on the other young players. Even with this program we know that we do not have the rights to that bat boy, he must be in the draft the following year.  We practice five times per week during the preseason and all of you put in exactly what you get out of it.  Please do not take offense to the comments as it is actually a compliment.  Just remember a Melting Pot has to be strong as it takes the heat to melt the ore!!  Go Yankees!

Tuesday game against Braves postponed

Yanks Beat Cubs with Funks Arm and Ackermans Bat
June 6, 2008 The Yankees used another no hit performance from Carter Funk and benefited from John Ackerman at the plate who hit two home runs and a triple driving in 6 runs and scoring another to account for seven runs individually.  Carter pitched four innings of no hit ball striking out 10 batters, walking 7, while allowing 2 runs.  John could not have driven in the runs if it were not for his teammates getting on base.  The Yankee hitters were swinging hot bats as they pounded out a total of  12 hits.  JT Stevenson scored three times and hit a double and two singles, Blake Rhodes hit a double and single while Zac Lee also hit a double and single and scored twice.  Ronnie Conner doubled while Ryan Muir single contributing one run each.  Funk drew two walks at the plate and scored twice.  Dom Mazzeo continued to perform well behind the plate.  The rest of the team in Hazelton, Sellers, Todd, and Groves contributed attitude and hustle to the victory.  The next game for the Yanks will be a Saturday evening contest starting at 7:30 against the Braves at the Park.

Happy Birthday Trent
The team wants to wish outfielder Trent Groves a Happy 9th Birthday.  Trent has been feeling under the weather lately but we hope the birthday wishes makes him feel better.  Trent we have a big game on Tuesday night so make that birthday wish count!!

Practice Set for 4:00 Sunday

The Yanks have set practice for 4:00 Sunday as they hope to get ready for the Braves.  Currently the Braves have an unblemished record and are waiting to take on the Yankees.

Lee, Mazzeo Step Up Behind the Plate
May 31, 2008 As the winter months drifted and the minor league draft came and went, one huge question was left unanswered about the defending champion Yankees, who is going to catch??  With the loss of Tyler Sponaugle and Bradly Stotler the Yanks were left with no player catching one pitch.  The first hurdle was reached when Zac Lee answered the request to catch during the second practice of the season.  But still how is he going to fill the shoes of the previous year.  At the same time an eight year old hinted to his parents that he too would like the opportunity to learn the catching position like his grandfather.  After an indication from those parents to try him at the position the player in Dom Mazzeo did an extraordinary job on the side with the pitchers.  At that time Coach Paul Ackerman who has done just a little catching in his day (One of the best in Cumberland history) reviewed the items with these two players that a catcher must keep in mind while putting in a days work.  But the most important thing he advised them is they have to work hard, show a desire, and practice-practice-practice.  Those words have stuck with Dom and Zac as they have both developed into two very capable catchers and are giving the Yankee pitching staff great targets behind the plate.  As we have all seen in the minor leagues some kids develop faster than others and these two have learned to give it their all in holding down this position in just eight short weeks.  Dom and Zac the Yankee staff just wants to thank you for doing a great job learning the lost art of catching, do not think it is a thankless job, both of you are appreciated for your contributions.

We got the FUNK, Carter that is ,and he shuts down Nationals
May 30, 2008 Carter Funk turned in a no hit eleven strikeout performance and his Yankee teamates took advantage of a thirteen hit night in beating the Nationals 20-1.  On the mound Carter struck out the side in each of the first three innings before allowing John Ackerman and JT Stevenson to complete a nice 3-4 ground out to first base.  After the put out Carter then struck out the following two batters to end the contest.  At the plate the Yankees were lead by JT Stevenson with a  Home run and single, John Ackerman a triple and double, Ronnie Conner and Zac Lee with a double and single each, Ryan Muir two singles and Blake Rhodes a double.  On the evening Conner and Stevenson scored four times, Ackerman and Muir three times, and Tyson Todd twice.  The Yankees next contest will be Tuesday at Al Abrams as the Yanks take on the Braves with the first pitch scheduled for 6:00.

A-C-K-E-R-M-A-N GETS THE CALL

On Tuesday evening around 5:00 the Ackerman household was put into a debacle as Coach Paul and Jeet had just finished a workout and were getting ready to shower and enjoy a little league game at the Park.  Mom (Nicki), Hannah, and Gee were getting ready to sit down for dinner when the phone rang.  That call was an urgent request to pack up your minor league equipment and head to Long Field because the Phillies needed a right fielder to fill the roster to play a game against the Tigers.  John quickly put on his Red shirt and home white pants and headed to town.  The Yankee first baseman and pitcher made his presence felt as he walked and belted a hard shot to the left side of the diamond for a single in helping the Phillies to the 11-1 victory over the Tigers. The Yankees have been invited to board a charter bus and attend the game between the Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday June 13th.  We will need to let the sponsor know by June 5th how many will be attending the trip.  We feel it is an honor and a great reward for all our hard work to be invited to attend such a game.

Yankees open season with 10-0 victory over Indians
The Yankees used a four inning no hit performance from John Ackerman to open the season with ten run rule victory over the Indians.  Ackerman also contributed a home run and single to the 10-0 game that was called in the fourth inning.  Also contributing to the victory was JT Stevenson with two singles while Ronnie Conner, Blake Rhodes, Zac Lee, and Devon Hazelton all had singles.  Conner's single drove in the final run of the game for the victory. Ackerman who only walked four on the day got a tremendous catching performance from Zac Lee.  The next time the Yanks are in action is on May 30th at Flynn field against the Nationals.  Game time is scheduled for 5:30.

YANKEES PREPARE FOR THE INDIANS
May 18, 2008 In preparation for the season opener against the Indians the Yankees will have practice Monday at South Penn starting at 5:30.  The Indians are one of the favorites in the league this year so it will take a total team effort to win the game.  Mondays practice will consist of hitting practice and to allow pitchers to throw on the side.

Yankees take Angels in Booster Game
May 18, 2008 The Minor Division Yankees won the booster game 17-9 over the Angels.  The victors were lead at the plate by JT Stevenson who had two doubles and a single.  John Ackerman had a double while Blake Rhodes and Devon Hazelton singled.  Stevenson, Ronnie Conner, and Rhodes scored three times while Ackerman and Carter Funk scored twice.  Carter Funk worked the first two innings giving up 4 runs on no hits and three strikeouts.  Ronnie Conner worked the next two frames and gave up five runs on two hits and striking out two.  John Ackerman came on to finish the game throwing a total of nine pitches to strike out the side.  The next test for the Yankees will be Wednesday for the season opener against the Indians at 7:30 at the Park Field.

The Sellers Report
May 14, 2008 Anyone at the Scrimmage on Wednesday evening could look at Keleigh Sellers and see that there was a glimmer in her eye and an even larger than normal smile.  Keleigh had her appointment with her doctor on Tuesday and after calling the coach and trying to play a couple of bad pranks on him advised that not just one, but all three pins in her fractured arm had been removed.  The Doctor advised that the arm had healed and she can begin working and strengthening her arm  but will have to remain on the DL list until at least June 10th.  After that if all goes well she will be ready for action.  We look forward to her return.

Yankees beat Astros in a scrimmage
May 14, 2008 The Minor Division Yankees and Astros played a scrimmage game on Wednesday evening at Al Abrams Field.  The final score had the Yankees on top 17 to 9 after five innings of play.  Both teams played with a full outfield to allow all players to participate in the game.  The Yankees collected 11 hits on the day as John Ackerman  and Devon Hazelton hit a double and single, JT Stevenson and Ryan Muir added two singles each and Carter Funk, Blake Rhodes, and Zac Lee had a single.  Carter Funk scored four times on the day.  Pitchers Carter Funk, Blake Rhodes, and Ronnie Connor together gave up only two runs.  For the Astros Daniel Hott and Conner Brode had two single each.  The next game for the Yankees is in the Booster Game Sunday at 4:00 against the Angels at Long Field in Constitution Park.

Friday night at the Track not a complete WASH!
May 12, 2008 The rain we had this past Friday caused the race to be canceled however several of the players still got together at CiCi'S Pizza followed by a Movie.  I want to take this time to thank those in attendance as I would like to see this team be friends and not only teammates.  We hope to plan other events in the future and if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Scrimmage scheduled for Wednesday
May 11, 2008 We have been invited to play a scrimmage game against the Astros on Wednesday evening at 5:30 at Al Abrams field.  All players are asked to arrive at the field prior to 5:30 to get ready for the game.  Please wear the gray uniforms to the game.

Yankees win scrimmage game against Angels
May 8, 2008 The Yankees won a five inning scrimmage against the Angels at Stitcher field on Thursday May 8th.  The team played with nine players.  Outfielder Ryan Muir came down with a virus and was unable to play.  Carter Funk started out on the mound and finished with a three up and three down inning.  Second on the Hill was Blake Rhodes who walked in the only run for the day but struck out three to conclude his inning of work.  Ronnie Connor then worked the third inning facing three batters and striking out two.  In the Forth JT Stevenson came on to strike out the side.  Finishing the day on the mound was John Ackerman who after walking the first batter then struck out the next three to end the game.  At the plate JT Stevenson was 5 for 5 collecting three singles and two doubles, Carter Funk went 4 for 4 hitting a triple and three singles.  John Ackerman concluded his day with a 3 for 3 performance smashing a triple, double, and single.  Seven year old Devon Hazelton hit a double while Dom Mazzeo scored three times, Tyson Todd twice, and Blake Rhodes Twice.  Zac Lee finished with a three walk day while doing a great job behind the plate.  The next scheduled appearance for the Yanks will be in the booster game against the same Angels either Saturday May 17 or Sunday May 18.

Happy Birthday Devon Hazelton
May 6, 2008

Switch hitting outfielder Devon Hazelton celebrated his 8th birthday this past week with a party at his house with friends and family.  The Yankees want to express their birthday wishes to Devon!

Friday At the Track
May 6, 2008 As we know Blake Rhodes father runs his number 88 race car at the Cumberland Fairgrounds each Friday.  Some of the team has decided to go to CeCe's Pizza at 5:30 and then go to the Track to watch our Third Baseman's father put the pedal to the metal.  According to Blake admission for kids is free and he wants us to meet him to the right side of the grandstand upon entrance.  All parents and players are invited to attend.

YANKS GET READY FOR SCRIMMAGE WITH ANGELS
May 6, 2008 The Yankees have one final practice until there preseason affair with the Angels on Thursday evening at Stitcher field at Braddock Middle School.  The team has been working well as a unit and all players are expected to contribute in Thursdays contest.  We will try to pitch the entire staff.  Game time will be 5:45.

Registration Fee
The League has asked that all fees for playing be turned in to managers in the next 10 days.  If you have not paid the fee please be sure to turn the $30 to the Manager so your uniform can be ordered.  The season is set to start May 22 with the booster game being scheduled for May 16th.

Sellers Goes on the Disabled List
April 26, 2008 Yankees new player Kyleigh Sellers has been placed on the DL with a fracture to the arm.  The nine year old broke her arm in a playground accident at school.  She has had surgery in Morgantown and will be evaluated in 4 weeks by her Doctor.

Practice
April 15, 2008 Wanted to comment on how well our practice has been going.  Every player is showing improvement and our drills and practice schedule is starting to show.  The Yanks take an aggressive approach however it will pay off not only in our schedule this year but in your future years in the Major Division.  I have been told by several coaches that our kids are prepared and I want to thank each one of you for giving 100%.

The Start of 2008 Season
April 6, 2008
The Yankees held their first practice of the season on Sunday April 6, 2008 at Stitcher Field.  We would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new players to the Team.  In the recent draft the Yankees feel lucky to have been able to draft Blake Rhodes, Carter Funk, Kyleigh Sellers, Devon Hazelton, and Tyson Todd.  We also can announce that former player Ryan Morgan has decided to play this year.  The club feels that all the players will be a nice addition in keeping this program going in a winning tradition.  At the first practice we were able to see all the players swing the bat, throw and field.  Future practices will encompass all these aspects and we will continue to add new items to our work sessions so by game time we will know what to do and when to do it.  As discussed out Practices will be on Wednesday at Al Abrams (5:30), Friday at South Penn (5:30), and Sunday at Stitcher (4:00).  The three sessions are manitory.  We will also have two optional dates each week at South Penn on Monday and Thursday beginning at 5:30.  There is no practice available this Monday April 7th.  Also please keep in mind that South Penn is often wet in the outfield and unplayable so I will keep you posted on whether the field can be used to practice.  The Minors have also been given permission to play doubleheaders each Friday at Flynn field off Offutt St. in South Cumberland.

Schedule
March 21, 2008

For some of you that have noticed the Minor League schedule on www.dapperdanclub.com please note that this schedule is not firm.  We are running into a field shortage and the city has designated certain fields to different leagues and those leagues must grant permission to play on the fields so truthfully we do not know where we will be playing.  Remain patient as there is alot of time until opening day toward the end of May.  As soon as the schedule is firm I will let you know.

Yankee Players Drafted to Major Division
March 19, 2008 Sunday March 16th was the Major Division draft and several of our Champion Yankees were drafted to the next level.  Nick Mazzeo was drafted by the Tigers, Tyler Sponaugle to the A's, Ricky Colbert the Orioles, Austin Bittner the Pirates, and a pair of Yankees went to the Phillies in Bradley Stotler and Danny May.  We wish all our former players success and continue to show the skills and professionalism you learned with the Yankees in the Minor Division.

FUNDRAISING

In case you have not noticed we have a Magazine Store.  Please take the time to click into the Store and purchase a subscription.  The team is given 40% of the cost for each one sold.  We can use this toward our year end picnic or any other thing we need funding.  I have targeted $500.00 this year from this program.  I figure we have 12 players and if each can get $42.00 in profit ( that will be about 4 people per player to purchase a subscription) then we will meet our goal.  This is not a fundraiser of the Dapper Dan but a Team fundraiser.   Email all your friends and family and ask them to review our site and magazine store.

2008 Season will Soon Be Here
March 1, 2008

As we all anticipate the spring weather we know that the 2008 Season will be here before we know it.  As we know the Yanks won the 2007 Championship and in doing so we have prepared several players for the upcoming Major League Draft.  We know going into the draft we will lose our 10 year olds from last seasons team.  We would like to extend best wishes to Tyler Sponaugle, Bradly Stotler, and Nick Mazzeo.  Use what you learned as a Yankee and you will have success in the upper division.  Also available to be drafted into the Majors as 10 year olds will be our nine year old players from last season.  These players are Austin Bittner, Ricky Colbert, Danny May, and Zac Lee.  The Major League draft is scheduled for May 16, 2008 at 6:00.  On the same day there will be a voluntary work out session for potential draftees from 2:00-3:00 at Long Field.  The Minor League draft will occur at a later date and practice schedules will be given out.  In the mean time players are urged to prepare themselves by throwing with friends or swinging their bat if weather permits prior to practice.  I will keep you all posted but I hope to have a successful draft so we can have another great season.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
