2010 East Cobb 13U Lightning
The East Cobb Lightning is a 13U, year-round travel baseball team playing out of the nationally recognized East Cobb Baseball (ECB) organization and complex in Marietta, Georgia. For the past 20 years, ECB attracts top players from around the country and has produced more national titles than any other youth baseball organization (See a complete list of national titles at: ECB National Titles). In addition, ECB has sent hundreds of players to college baseball programs, and is one of the leading organizations in the country in producing Major League draft picks (See a list of MLB former ECB Former Players). As a result, ECB is well known around the country by college and major league scouts who visit the ECB complex on a regular basis for games, tournaments, and showcases.
The East Cobb 13U Lightning has been together since 2005, and has been successful over that six year period with a 122 win and 80 loss record, and thirteen championship appearances, including their 2008 Championship national title victory at the 2008 Grand Slam World Series in Panama Beach, Florida. This past season, the team had a remarkable run making the “Sweet 16” and finally getting eliminated in quarter finals in the “Field of Dreams” tournament in Cooperstown New York at the baseball Hall of Fame, where they competed against 102 teams from 27 states. In addition in 2009, the team had four semi-final championship appearances, and were crowned USTBA Georgia State Champs, and Northwest Baseball Association (NWBA) Division Champs. The team also places academic achievement as a major goal, and last year the team accomplished a team GPA of 3.59.
Volunteer parents manage the team’s Front Office, and volunteer Dad’s coach the team year-round. The kids are all from local, north metro Atlanta schools. The goals for the team are as follows; high academic achievement, to learn the game of baseball, to play at an a elite level, to understand the importance of sportsmanship, to learn life lessons, and have a blast!
The team plays USSSA, Grand Slam, AAYBA, USTBA, CABA, Triple Crown and NWBA travel team tournaments throughout the southeast. In the 2010 spring and summer season, the team intends to play in approximately eight tournaments and 40 additional games, between February and August 2010, totaling a 70 game season. An additional 13 games will be played in the fall between September and November.
The ECB 13U Lightning provides excellent opportunities for some really great and talented kids achieve their baseball dreams!
