Eagle Basketball Community
December 8, 2009  --   Welcome Eagle Fans

The 2009-2010 basketball season is in full swing with numerous games to choose from every week. Coach Johnson’s 9th graders are off to their typical start. Tonight, they are over in Caldwell with Coach Johnson following up his win(hopefully) with a fun time at the Metallica concert. No timeouts, no overtimes, and keep the bus warmed up for that quick trip to the Idaho Center.

Coach Shelby and his Soph/Frosh Team are also 3-0 with wins over Bishop Kelly, Kuna, and Meridian. Mountain View will attempt to spoil that record on Tuesday when they invade our Eagle Gym for 3 games. Coach Shelby is working extremely hard to get his players to become more aggressive on both sides of the court. There is a place for physical dominance on the basketball floor, it is called “The Key!” If I know Coach Shelby, the kids will be working non-stop to improve their attacking offense and defense and you will see some great strides over the next few weeks.

Coach Humphreys, coach of the JV Team has the best record of all of us. At the high school level, he has yet to be defeated. We are all hoping that record continues for a long time. In his first head-coaching stint, we all wish the best for Coach Humphreys. He also has wins over Bishop Kelly, Kuna, and Meridian. The season is long and arduous with many a pitfall ahead, the championship team is the one who will rise up after the knockdown to battle another day.

At the Varsity level, we are also 3-0 with wins over the same (above listed) teams. Our season was delayed for several days because of the Football Team reaching the State Championship, (and winning it) and I would put up with that slight inconvenience every year, if I could. We are still looking for our basketball legs and timing amongst the players. You would be amazed at how athletic the kids are, but it truly does take some timing and practice to work out the details and fine tune what we do. There is no question as to the depth of this varsity team. As I tell them in practice, it is production that plays – not potential. Once you get on the floor, don’t give me a reason to substitute you – unless you are dog tired. My best wishes to all of our coaches and team this year.

Parents and Boosters – come with a loud voice and kind heart. Stay positive, support our entire program, and be proud to be a Mustang.

Be Watchful! The holiday schedule will be appearing soon. Our teams have three games over the Christmas Break – so there won’t be much of a vacation.

Thanks for your support.
