Laura Bacskoczky
Cheer Commissioner
Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2009 season. Please read all of this information thoroughly. As some of you know and for those who are new to our organization we are entering into this season as winners on all levels. Our Pee Wee Cheerleaders brought home the GOLD and are our National Champions and our Midget Cheerleaders were undefeated Eastern Region Champions. The Golden Bear Chargers organization is very proud of these cheerleaders and their accomplishments.
The Central Jersey Conference feels that all Pop Warner cheerleaders should compete; therefore GBC cheerleaders in addition to cheering at football games also compete for a chance to compete at Nationals in Disney World in December.
All girls and their parents will be required to sign a cheer contract. This contract will inform you of most required expenditures and expenditures that are encouraged, but not mandatory. It will also inform you of all practices, mandatory practices, attire, rules, disciplinary action, etc. that will be required of you and your child. Please read the contract carefully and discuss it with your child so that both of you will understand what is expected. By signing this contract it will ensure that the girls who are committed will not suffer as a result of those who do not feel that strongly about cheerleading.
GAME SCHEDULE
Cheerleaders are required to cheer at all games. There are 4 home and 4 away games. Please be advised that if your team makes it to playoffs or participates in a bowl game the cheerleaders are required to participate, per Central Jersey.
PLACEMENT
I want all parents/guardians to be aware that placement on the same team year to year might not happen. Please be advised that the number one factor in setting up teams is your child’s age and where the birthday of your child falls. The second basis of placement is the number of participants on other squads. After teams are created there is always the possibility that due to the numbers of other teams a child might have to be moved to another team, these decisions are made by myself, my assistant and the GBC Coaching Staff.
PRE CERTIFICATION DATES
On Monday, July 13, 2009 from 6:30 – 8:30 and Saturday, July 25, 2009 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at the Spotswood Municipal Building we will be holding pre-season registration dates for you to hand in the following paperwork:
Birth certificates- Please be advised that ALL cheerleaders must supply an original birth certificate (be advised that for our books to be certified by Central Jersey and all cheerleaders must supply GBC with an original birth certificate). After the books are certified your birth certificates will be returned. Competition squads will need to supply their birth certificates for competition so keep them available to supply to your coaches when the time is right.
Doctors notes: Enclosed please find the Pop Warner Medical Form which needs to be dated, signed and stamped by your physician. Physicals must be performed after January 1, 2009 and before August 1, 2009. These forms need to be in prior to the first day of practice or your child WILL NOT (NO EXCUSES) be able to practice due to liability issues.
You must also supply your child’s 1x1 picture, Uniform Deposit check ($75.00) Workbond checks ($100.00) and any buyouts that you have chosen to do.
ATTIRE
Below please find information regarding general attire, rules regarding absenteeism, practice rules and competition information.

1. Navy Blue - Long Sleeve Turtleneck Body Suit.
2. Bloomers – metallic Navy Blue
3. Cheer Sneaker— Converse Chant

We will be taking sneaker, body suit and Bloomers sizing on the July 13, 2009 date. Payments will be due at time of order.
All uniform attire is to be approved by your coaching staff by the first game
Cheer Curls are to be standard Cheer Curls purchased from Cheercurlz.com NO EXCEPTIONS and must be sewn in prior to competing
We will be ordering warm-ups for all competition squads again this year. We will be holding some canning dates to help offset the cost for the parents that want to purchase the warm-ups for their children. Be advised all money collected will go into a general warm up fund to be divided amongst those who participate. This is not mandatory but is encouraged because the girls really feel like a team when the go to competition in these warm-ups.
PRACTICE SCHEDULE
Pre-season practices will begin August 3, 2008 at Warnsdorfer Fields. All children are to be in T-shirts, shorts and sneakers. Please make sure your children are dressed appropriately for practice. NO JEANS, FLIP FLOPS, HAIR DECORATIONS OR JEWELRY I.E, EARRINGS, BRACELETS, NECKLACES. Practices will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Due to the extreme heat conditions in August we ask that all girls bring cold water and are well hydrated. Please make sure your child drinks lots of water the day of practice to get hydrated.
Starting September practices will be three days a week within the East Brunswick/Spotswood area. The days and locations will be announced upon verification and approval by the school districts if indeed we are utilizing the schools.
Please be advised that practices can be changed due to scheduling conflicts within practice areas and coaches schedules.
ALL SEASON PRACTICES HELD WITHIN THE SCHOOLS WILL BE CLOSED TO THE PARENTS unless advised by your coaches. Due to distractions, school requests, and insurance issues, all parents and siblings must remain out of the schools while the girls are practicing. We will allow parents to view the girl’s progress during the last ten minutes of the last day of the week’s practice.
Concerns for the coaches If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s team please go to your team moms. If you do not get your answer or relief within a reasonable time frame, please contact myself and I will address these issues with the coaches. Please do not address the coaches with issues. This is why we have team moms, remember they are a messenger. Your coaches are there to coach and cannot spend countless minutes addressing issues with you.
The New Jersey Cheer Factory has graciously offered the competition squads with a two day Cheer Clinic in August (dates to be determined) this cost per child is to be determined at a later date. Please be advised this is not mandatory but it is STRONGLY encouraged since it will help increase our chances for placement during competition and allow us to have a completed routine by the end of August.
ABSENTEEISM
For the month of August we will be holding practices a maximum of 4 days a week. We strongly recommend that cheerleaders attend ALL practices. We will allow only 4 absences in the month of August. Please plan your trips around your cheer practice schedule. It is very important to have all girls there as a team. If a girl is missing during our scheduled practice it hurts the whole team. Please remember most of our coaches are working parents and they have to make their schedules around their own, so please read all material given to you by your coaches and mark your calendars accordingly.
Starting from the first game until October 1, 2008 each girl will be allotted two absences for (illness only) practices/games during regular season without being removed from a squad. I would request that the parents refrain from allowing their children to take time off unless it is due to illness. The only excused absence will be for a RELIGIOUS HOLIDAYS or LEGITIMATE ILLNESS
Be advised that starting October 1, 2008 all practices are MANDATORY. If you have any reason that your child needs to miss or will be late to practice prior to these competitions I would request you find a way for your child to attend these practices. If your child is missing the whole team suffers. I ask that the parents also work as a team. If you see that a parent is having difficulty getting a child to practice due to work schedules etc., please volunteer to help, we are not only a team but a family.
LATENESS
Each lateness of 15 minutes will be noted. If a child has been late two times, that will be changed to one day absent.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have @ 732-744-4484 or 732-251-9120 or you can email me at gbcmom2006@yahoo.com
Thank you
