GCAA INTRAMURAL RULES 2011-2012 SEASON

General Intramural Rules
Equal playing time
No arguing with refs
Clean up water bottles and debris after every game.
North side of St. Paul’s will be reserved for players, coaches and scorekeepers
One coach can walk along sideline during game.
All kids not playing in a game should be sitting on the bench (not the floor)
No blow outs. Keep games close.
Coaches should remain calm and limit yelling on sidelines.
No coaches on court except for 2nd Grade Boys and 2-3 Girls. One Coach on the floor per team.
Scores will be reported, standings will be kept and playoffs will be set up for 3rd grade boys and up and 4/5 Girls and up.

Rules by Division

7-8 Boys:
Playing time is equal.
Sub at 16, 12, 8 and 4 minute marks
16 minute stop clock halves in December
2:00 halftime
10 fouls is 1-1
13 fouls is bonus
5 fouls and player is out
Book and clock must be kept by adult. If no adult, asst coach must do it.
Ball size= Men’s Ball
Each team gets one 30 second time out per half
Man to man, zone and half court pressing allowed
Full court defense in last 8 minutes of game only.
If a team is up by 10 or more, team is not allowed to full court press
There are 3 point shots if there is a three point line
One adult ref at $40 per game. Each coach pays $20
3:00 minute overtime if enough time. If not, game ends in a tie.

7-8 Girls:
Playing time is equal
Same rules as above with following exceptions:
14 minute stop clock halves
2:00 halftime
10 fouls per half is 1-1
13 fouls per half is bonus
5 fouls and player is out
Sub at 10:30, 7:00, 3:30
Ball Size is 28.5
There are no time outs
There are 3 point shots
Games must start no later than 2:35 or 3:35 and end at 3:25 and 4:25.
One adult ref per game at $40 per game. Each coach pays $20
3:00 minute overtime if enough time. If not, game ends in a tie.

5-6 Boys:
Playing time is equal
Sub at 16, 12, 8 and 4 minute marks
Same as 7-8 boys with following exceptions
20 minute stop clock halves
2:00 Minute halftime
10 fouls per half is 1-1
13 fouls per half is bonus
5 fouls and player is out
Ball size is 28.5
Each team gets one 30 second time out per half
Man or Zone defense is permitted but you must only play a 2-3 zone if you utilize zone
There are 3 point shots
Full Court defense in last 8 minutes of game only. If a team is up by 10 or more, no pressing is allowed.
Games must start no later than 1:35 or 4:35 on Saturdays and 6:10 on weeknights.
One adult ref at $40 per game. Each ref pays $20
3:00 minute overtime if enough time. If not, game ends in a tie.

4-6 Girls:
Playing time is equal
20 minute stop clock halves
2:00 Minute halftime
10 fouls per half is 1-1
13 fouls per half is bonus
5 fouls and player is out
Sub at 16, 12, 8 and 4 minute marks
Free throws from 12 feet
Ball Size 28.5
Each team gets one 30 second time out per half
Half Court Man to Man defense only
1 Adult ref at $40 per game. Each coach pays $20
Games Start at 3 PM promptly.
If there is a 3 point line, there are 3 point shots
3:00 minute overtime if enough time. If not, game ends in a tie.

4th Boys:
Playing time is equal
20 minute stop clock halves
2:00 Minute halftime
10 fouls per half is 1-1
13 fouls per half is bonus
5 fouls and player is out
Sub at 16, 12, 8 and 4 minute marks
Free throws from 12 feet
Ball Size 28.5
Each team gets one 30 second time out per half.
Half Court man to man defense only. No double teaming
Games must start no later than 12:15
1 Adult ref at $40 per game. Each coach pays $20.
There are 3 point shots
3:00 minute overtime if enough time. If not, game ends in a tie.

3rd Boys:
Playing Time is equal
20 minute stop clock halves
Sub at 15, 10 and 5 minute marks
2:00 Minute Halftime
No time outs
Shooting foul is 1 pt and the ball. No free throws. If a player makes a shot and gets fouled result is 3 points and the other team’s ball.
5 fouls and player is out
Ball Size 28.5
Man to Man defense inside the 3 point arc only. No double teaming
Games must start no later than 11:05 and end by 11:55
1 Adult ref at $40 per game. Each coach pays $20
There are no 3 point shots.
3:00 minute overtime if enough time. If not, game ends in a tie.

2-3 Girls:
Playing Time is equal
15 minutes of instruction followed by two 20 minute running halves
2:00 Minute Halftime
No time outs
No free throws. Shooting foul equals one point and the ball. If player makes a shot and gets fouled result is 3 points and other team’s ball.
Ball Size 27.5
Man to Man defense inside the 3 point arc. No double teaming
Games must start by 10:15 and end by 10:55
Max of one coach per team on floor
2 kid refs with each kid getting paid $20.
There are no point shots.
No overtime.


2nd Boys:
Playing time is equal
15 minutes of instruction followed by two 20 minute running halves
2:00 halftime
No time outs
No free throws. Shooting foul equals one point and the ball. If a player makes a shot and gets fouled result is 3 points and the other team’s ball
Ball Size 27.5Man to Man defense inside 3 point arc only. No double teaming.
Games must start by 9:15 and end by 9:55
Max of one coach per team on floor
2 kid refs with each kid getting paid $20
There are no 3 point shots
No overtime.


K-1 Clinic:
The K-1 clinic is a format where K-1 youngsters develop basketball skills so they are ready to play in games by 2nd grade. There will be a different focus each week with an eye toward developing a comprehensive set of basketball skills.

We would like the following concepts covered each week at the K-1 Clinic as well as other grades

12/3 lay up fundamentals/ the three second rule
12/10 dribbling fundamentals/double dribbling and traveling
12/17 shot mechanics/free throw rules
1/7 rebounding/boxing out/over the back
1/14 defensive positions/slides/ reaching in rules
1/21 passing/chest/bounce/outlet/jump stop
1/28 lay up fundamentals
2/4 dribbling fundamentals
2/11 shot fundamentals
