Coach Tweed: 2002-2003, 2004-Present (Head Coach)
(Pictured above is Rod Cocci & Coach Tweed. Rod was coached by Coach Tweed @ Central Regional & Monsignor Donovan High Schools. He went on to have a stellar track & field career @ Fordham University and is currently the throws coach @ Toms River High School North.)


Coach Tweed started coaching track and field in 1994 at Central Regional High School in Bayville, NJ. While at Central, Coach Tweed worked under Hall of Fame coach Steve Healey. His main responsibility was working with the field events, in particular the javelin.

Between 1996-2000, Coach Tweed was a member of the Lakewood High School coaching staff. During his time there he worked with both the boy's and girl's throwers. He was fortunate enough to be on staffs that won one state and conference title, as well as two county championships.

In 2001 Coach Tweed moved to New Egypt High School, where he helped establish the school's track & field program with coach Joe Jerabek. After one year he came to Manalapan to assist Dion Smith. Under the tutelage of Coach Smith, he learned what was needed in order to run a successful program.

Al Perka, Don Shrump, & Charlz Hester were assistants between 2004-2006 and offered valuable insight and had a tremendous impact on the program that is still felt in the program today.

Harry Neill, Nick Bruno, Bob Andrews, & Dave Hunt (Winter), are also part of the Braves Track & Field Family, and have had a profound impact on the program as well.

2005: 4-2, 4th Place - Monmouth County Championships
2006: 5-1, A-North Champions
2007: 4-3, 3rd Place - Monmouth County Championships
2008: (Winter) A- North Champs, 2nd Place - Monmouth County Championships
(Spring) 5-2, 3rd Place - Monmouth County Championships

2009: 4-3

Coach Neill: 2005 - Present
Mr. Harold Neill has joined the Manalapan Braves Track & Field coaching staff. Coach Neill, a former head coach at Howell High School, brings a wealth of experience to the staff. At Howell, Coach Neill helped Lindsay Gallo win two state sectional titles and four county championships in the 1600m and 3200m. Miss Gallo would later go on to earn All-American honors twice while attending the University of Michigan.

His experience has added a sense of stability and consistency to those participating in the distance events. Additionally, Coach Neill also works with our hurdlers & jumpers.

Mr. Neill is a teacher in the Science & Engineering Department at Manalapan. His addition to the program has be felt. Under his direction, he has help to create a talented and deep distance corp.

Some of those individuals who have benefitted from his coaching include:

Robby Andrews - District, County, Section, Group Champion

Coach Neill's experience & skill for creating lineups has been a key component of the team's recent success.


Coach Bruno: 2007-Present
Coach Bruno was a standout field athlete at Toms River High School East and Rowan University. He is responsible for the field events. In his first year with the Braves, those in his charge had great success. They include:

Jack Gilburn - District Field MVP, Section, Group Place Winner, #11 ranking in the US (JAV).

Dunnell Ridore - District High Jump Champ

George Catuogno - District Place Winner (JAV)

Brett McCarron - District Place Winner (JAV)

Coach Bruno is also responsible for the Braves Track & Field strength & conditioning program.

An energetic and knowledgeable technician, Coach Bruno will be a great head coach in the future.


Coach Hester: 2006
Coach Charlz Hester is entering is first year with the Braves. His main responsibility will be coaching the sprints & jumps. He comes to us from Toms River High School South where he was an assistant girl's track coach for two seasons.

Coach Hester, was a multiple time state champion in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 4 x 4 Relay while a member of the TRS track & field team. Coach Hester also ran at Central Regional High School for one year prior transferring to Toms River South.

While participating in high school track & field, Coach Hester was coached by some of the most accomplished and respected coaches in the state: Mark O'Leary (TRS Head Coach), Ed Heffernan (TRS Sprint Coach), and Steve Healey (CRHS Head Coach).

Coach had a stellar career at Seton Hall University garnering numerous honors as an athlete. We are looking for Coach Hester to have a huge impact on our program.


Coach Shrump: 2004-2005
Coach Donald Shrump is entering his third year as an assistant coach at Manalapan. Due to an increasingly successful career as a personal trainer, Coach Shrump will coach in a volunteer capacity. During his first & second seasons, coach made an immediate impact. He was reponsible for coaching the jumps, PV, and hurdles. All of his athletes excelled and will benefit greatly by working with him

Coach Shrump comes to us by way of Central Regional High School and Rutgers University. At Central, coach excelled in the jumps and won numerous honors in those events. In addition, he was named to the All-State team as a goalie in soccer.

Coach went on the Rugters University as a walk on to the track team. His hard work and dedication eventually helped earn him a scholarship. Before a career ending injury, coach was named to the All Big East team and qualified for national competition in the decathalon.

He is truly a student of track and field and has already helped to shape a successful team.

In his brief career, Coach Shrump has already coached:

7 County Place Winners
8 State Sectional Placewinners
1 State Group Placewinner
2 FRHSD Champions (Joe Quintano, Mike Goldwassar)

In addition, coach help Adam Hegel jump 42'9" in the triple jump this season, thus becoming the FRHSD record holder in that event (previously held by Dom Isolda '04.)
