National City bank is closing its branch next to Goodyear Hall, which once was home to tire maker Goodyear's bank subsidiary created in 1933. The branch at East Market Street, across the street from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.'s headquarters, will close at noon on Feb. 27, 2009.
Brownie Girl Scout Troop 559 of Manchester learned a little about the history of the bank thanks to Tony Klonowski, branch manager and Deanne Birch office manager. The girls got to see the vault, and went inside the safety deposit vault. We talked alittle on the tunnel under Exchange street to the Goodyear building. The girls were impressed at the height of the ceilings and the intricate detail inside the old bank. Pictured are: Rylee, Kyla, Sara, Shannon, Valerie. Kayla, and Olivia. Troop 559 Leader (not pictured) is Daisy DiSanto.
