WOMEN IN BUSINESS - December 14th Meeting - If you're working on your Silver Award, or just curious about Careers for women, you need to come to this meeting.  Mrs. Davis has put together a panel of successful business women who will talk about how they got to where they are today, doing the work that they just love to do.  Just show up...no advanced reservation needed.  We're hoping to have women from these areas:  Yoga/Reiki Master, Veterinarian Doctor, School Teacher, NASA scientist, licensed massage therapist, accountant for the Department of Defense, Mary Kay, owner of a local manufacturing company, Sheriff's Deputy, a college student and MHS graduate who is pursuing a Masters in Architecture, and more.  We hope to see you!

LET'S GET OUT THERE AND BUST A MOVE!!  On January 11th, we're going to dance to Hip Hop and learn the latest craze...Zumba!  You'll need to register on the attached form for this event.  The cost is $5 per person.  Come and learn how to keep fit and have fun!  Two students from NorthEast Ohio Dance Company will be teaching you Hip Hop, and Laura Petek will be our Zumba Instructor for the afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m.

HOCKING HILLS OVERNIGHT AND HIKE - on January 17th the Annual Event will take place.  Mrs. Varndell at svarndell@earthlink.net is handling the coordination of this outing.  Please contact her for more information.  To see if you'll be interested, check out:  http://www.hockinghills.com/featstory/winter_hike.html

LEADER-DAUGHTER CAMPOUT for the Medina City Girl Scouts, has not been confirmed yet.  We'll be coupling a S2B campout (at Kirby House in Camp Crowell) with the Medina City Leader-Daughter campers (at Camp Hilaka).  The theme for the weekend is SLUMBER PARTY!!  We'll be coordinating Spa type stations for the Moms and Daughters staying at Hilaka on Saturday.  Reservations will be required after a date is set, because there are a limited number of spaces available at Kirby House.

THE LURE OF LANGUAGE is the theme of the February 8th meeting and World Thinking Day.  Mrs. Varndell has found a speaker who will talk about English as a Foreign Language.  We'll be earning the Lure of Language IP by working with German, French, Italian, Spanish, and possibly some American Sign Language.  We will learn how English developed from Germanic and Latin roots.  The plans are still in the works for an outing at the German Restaurant in Brunswick so you can exercise the language skills we learned at the February meeting.

    Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

Medina Studio 2B (S2B) is another activity available to Girl Scouts between 11 and 17 years old, who can participate with a Troop, as an individual from a Troop, or as a registered Juliette.  To participate in Medina S2B, you must be a registered Girl Scout, and we require a copy of each adult and girl's health record, which is kept on file for a year.  A permission slip for each off site activity is required, and a blanket permission slip is provided which covers all of the regularly scheduled monthly meetings.  There are no dues, however some events and activities do require small fees to provide for speaker costs, snacks, or supplies.  Each month, except over the summer, we offer a themed meeting and an off site activity.

The goal of Medina S2B is to keep girls in Girl Scouting as they mature, by offering programs that appeal to their age group.  We are constantly striving to make the programming more interesting by including activities that the girls have recommended to us.  We also encourage the achievement of the Silver and Gold Awards by providing Adult/Girl Scout Trained Advisors, and we gear activities toward the earning of Interest Patches needed to fulfill the requirements for the Silver and Gold Awards, which also coordinate with the interests of the girls.  The benefits of long-term membership in GSUSA have proven themselves repeatedly as girls go into college or seek employment, Girl Scouts have a definite advantage.

Reminders of Council, District, and S2B programs and events are frequently emailed to the Troop Leaders and those girls who have requested to be on the mailing list.  To be placed on the email list, or if you have any questions regarding Medina S2B, please email Janet Piombo at piombo@zoominternet.net
