The Ridge Point boys basketball players know how close they came last season.

Despite playing without seniors, the Panthers went into the finale of their first district campaign knowing they were in the playoffs with a win. But they lost to Texas City on a buzzer-beating shot.

They ended up .500 overall and one game out of the postseason.

"It was disappointing to be so close and not get in, but it was definitely promising from the standpoint that it gave the kids something to be hungry for," coachTerreance Plowden said.

Halfway through this season, they're still salivating.

The second-year Panthers won 10 of their first 14 games going into the District 22-4A opener against Willowridge last week, their only district contest before the mandatory five-day Christmas break.
