What About Games?
Our games are played against local teams from the South Shore, (ie. Hanson, Hull, West Bridgewater, East Bridgewater, Abington) most within a 20-minute drive from Pembroke. Each team plays an 8 game regular season schedule; 4 home game and 4 away games. Most games are played on Sunday with a chance of a town hosting a Saturday night game. OCYFL also offers post season play for the top 4 teams in each division culminating in divisional superbowl games.

What About Practices?
OCYFL mandates that football practices cannot begin prior to 30 days before the first game. PYFC’s football teams practice 5 days per week until the start of school at which time practice will drop to 3 days per week with the 4th day being coach optional. All PYFC’s practices will begin at 5:30 PM and end at 7:30 PM at the Pembroke Community Center fields unless adjusted by the respective Head Coach.

How Many Teams Are There?
PYFC consists of 3 Varsity and 3 Junior Varsity football teams and 3 cheering squads. In 2009 the OCYFL established the Mighty Mite level for 2nd graders. This team is soley instructional and practices 2 days a week and plays 8 games against other 2nd grade teams. The football divisions consist of Mites which are 3rd/4th graders, Peewee has 5th/6th graders and the Midget Division has 7th/8th graders.
The cheering squads consist of the Mites 3rd/4th graders, Peewees 5th and 6th graders and the Midget squad which is made up of 7th and 8th graders. Each cheering squad is capped at 35 cheerleaders.
Refer to the registration section of the web site for specific age and weight requirements.

What Is The Junior Varsity Program?
The Junior Varsity program was created to give the younger and less experienced player the opportunity to receive increased playing time in a less intense atmosphere. The players will learn the same system and plays as the all players making their future transition to the Varsity program easier. The games are normally played on Saturday mornings against Junior Varsity teams from other OCYFL towns -  which make the games more competitive. The players wear the same uniforms as the Varsity players and the games are officiated by professional referees. This system also allows the assurance that EVERY team gets equal opportunity to play on the PHS turf field.
No player assigned to play on the JV team will be required to dress for the Sunday Varsity game.

What Is A Minimum Play Rule?
PYFC has adopted a minimum play rule. This rule ensures every child will play at a minimum 8 plays per game. It is the hope of PYFC that keeping the team rosters to a smaller level will increase the playing time for all the players.

Who can play or cheer for PYFC?
Only children residing in the town of Pembroke are eligible to play and/or cheer for Pembroke Youth Football and Cheerleading.

Are there two football programs in town?
Yes.  Pembroke children have been a part of the OCYFL since 1974 and played as a part of Silver Lake Youth Football.  When Pembroke elected to leave the regional school system a group of parents started Pembroke Pop Warner Football, ending the youth experience with Silver Lake and entered the Hocomock League. In 2005, the then Pop Warner president became aware of an opportunity for Pembroke to join the OCYFL. Some parents wanted this and some did not. That same year PYFC was born and the children of Pembroke once again were back in Youth Football!

What is the difference between the two Pembroke youth football leagues?

Pembroke Youth Football dictates its own by-laws and constitution allowing it to fit the needs of the program.  Pembroke Pop Warner is governed strictly by National Pop Warner not allowing for differences in town size or makeup.  Pembroke Youth Football is more of a grade appropriate league.  Pembroke Pop Warner allows for older players to play against younger kids based solely on weight.  Example: This places 6th grade older lighters against 3rd graders due to weight.  PYFC has strict weight parameters but does not allow for older lighters. Pembroke Youth Football is part of the Old Colony Youth Football League which is a South Shore league with little to no travel. Pembroke Pop Warner is part of the Hocomock League which is spread throughout Eastern Massachusetts.

Fact: The largest youth football leagues in the country are Independent leagues like the OCYFL.

Towns in the South Shore that play football in the OCYFL are:
Hull, Hingham, Cohasset, Scituate, Norwell, Rockland, Abington, Hanover, Pembroke, Marshfield, Hanson, Whitman, East Bridgewater, West Bridgewater, Duxbury, Kingston, Halifax, Plympton, Plymouth, Bridgewater
In 2009 three additional south shore towns have asked what the process is to join this league.

Towns in the South Shore that play Pop Warner football are:
Plymouth, Pembroke, Duxbury and Carver
