RVCC's Freshman Marvin Crawford gets JUCO - GSAC Player of the Week

RANDOLF, NJ - Monae Fields earns her second GSAC player of the week honor, while Marvin Crawford brings home the first such honor for Raritan Valley Community College in this week's Garden State Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards, as announced by the conference office.

Fields has been instrumental in Passaic's quest for the top GSAC seed heading into the Region XIX tournament.  Recording her 20th double-double on the year, and helping her team to a 3-0 record on the week, Fields lifted her team's in-state record to 14-3 and sole possession of the top-seed in the conference (as of 2/18).   Fields enjoyed three double-double performances with 24 points, 11 rebounds in a 89-47 win over Sussex; 12 points, 10 in the 71-54 win over Middlesex and finished up the week with 18 points and 10 rebounds in a 77-55 over cross-river rival Montgomery.

Shooting lights out at a .568 clip, Crawford scored in double-digits in all three games, including two 20+ point performances.  Crawford scored a career-high 30 points in the 83-82 win over the Bronx and 21 points in a 87-74 win over Salem.  Crawford was as prolific-as-ever from the charity stripe, shooting 90% (18-for-20) on the week.

Congratulations to North Brunswick High School Boys Basketball Team

The North Brunswick High School boys basketball team topped Manalapan 54-50 in their NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV quarterfinal matchup with Manalapan on Thursday night.  North Brunswick will advance to the semifinals on Saturday against top-seeded Colts Neck.  Jordan Gonzalez came of the bench and contributed solid defense and a couple of points towards the victory.

JP Stevens Much Improved Over Last Year!
It was becoming evident in this 2011-2012 season the J.P. Stevens team had improved from the 2010-2011 (4-18) season. J.P. Stevens showed they were not the same old J.P. team in an early season game against South Brunswick with an almost comeback win (actually missing a potential winning shot at the buzzer).  South Brunswick escaped with a 61-60 decision. This season the J.P. kids never quit and showed tremendous heart. The kids in the J.P. Stevens program, made a commitment to train hard in the offseason, which clearly showed some results this year.

FYI - Coach Bobby Jones made his head coaching debut three years ago at J.P.  Stevens, taking over a program which had a winning cycle, but had lost everyone from the program to graduation.  He basically had to start from scratch.  After going (1-21) in 2009/2010, (4-18) in 2010/2011, J.P. won nine games this year and will play in the state tournament for the first time in three or four years.
