Why is there a Casey Cup? Well, it all started with a great hockey player from Great Falls by the name of Terry Casey. Terry was an outstanding athlete who played in many sports including football in which he was an all-star quarter back for Great Falls High School.
Terry Casey's #12 was recently retired in Grand Forks.

After graduation he was offered a hockey scholarship to the University of North Dakota where he led in scoring in his junior year, he concluded his collegiate career by being named to the all western team, and was selected as a first team All American, he later was selected for the USA National Team, and was also made captain of the 1968 Olympic team.

Terry Casey was an avid fast pitch softball player in the summer; he once pitched a perfect game. In July of 1968 while heading to a fast pitch tournament in Plentywood, MT Terry and two friends were killed in a head on collision.

So, in honor of Terry Casey the Terry Casey Memorial Tournament was established. Before the Casey Cup this tournament was called the Wendy's Invitational where the Terry Casey Most Valuable player trophy would be presented to the player who exemplified the ideals of Terry Casey.
