Cal Ripken Baseball 2010 Season Recap

The Last Cal Ripken Baseball Tournament of the 2010 season (12U, 70’) ended yesterday at the Ripken Youth Academy in Aberdeen, Maryland. Here is a rundown of the results of all the Cal Ripken Tournaments (related to us here in Maine, at least) for this season (click on “Tournaments” from the Main Menu for more details) :
District 5 Tournaments:
12U (Fairfield):Winner: Fairfield (3-1)
Runner-up: Messalonskee (4-2)

10U (Norridgewock):Winner: Fairfield (3-0)
Runner-up: Madison (3-2)

Maine State Tournaments:
12U (Bowdoinham):Winner: Fairfield (7-1)
Runner-up: Winthrop (3-2)

11U (Skowhegan):Winner: Skowhegan (5-0)
Runner-up: Gardiner (4-2)
Other District 5 Team: Messalonskee (5-2)
Other District 5 Team: Fairfield (2-2)

10U (Farmington):Winner: Marshwood (4-0)
Runner-up: Ararat (Bowdoinham area) (3-2)

Skowhegan Wins 11U State Championship

District 5's Skowhegan 11U team goes undefeated in the State Tournament held this past weekend at the Carl Wright Baseball Complex in Skowhegan. The hometown team defeated Gardiner 10-4 on Tuesday to capture the state title. The team will now advance to the New England Regional Tournament in Winchester, MA starting August 6. (Note: There is no World Series for the 11U age bracket.)

Messalonskee Wins Invitational

Congratulations to the Messalonskee 12U team who went undefeated to win the Monmouth Invitational this past weekend.

Madison Wins Invitational

Congratulations to the Madison 10U team who beat a strong Fairfield team to win the Farmington Elks Invitational this past weekend. Ryan Emery received the MVP award for hitting a grand slam in the championship game, his first-ever home run.

11U & 9U State Tournament Info Added

Maine State Tournaments for 11U & 9U begin tomorrow (as well as the Farmington 10U Elks Invitational & the Monmouth 12U Invitational which both start today). The 11U Teams play in Skowhegan & 9U Teams play in Oak Hill. Skowhegan Wins Invitational

Congratulations to the Skowhegan 11U team who won the Larry Carter Invitational recently by defeating Sebago-Long Lake 7-4.

Fairfield Wins 12U State Championship

July 14, 2010
After being knocked into the losers’ bracket by Winthrop, Fairfield 12U battled back by winning four straight games and eventually beating that same Winthrop team twice to capture the State Title. Fairfield shut out Winthrop 5-0 in the first game on Tuesday to force a final championship game that evening. By winning that second game 11-2, Fairfield became the 12U State Champions. They ended up with a record 7-1 in the tournament, an impressive stat by itself. The team will now advance to the New England Regional Tournament starting July 24th in Harrison (Sebago Lake area), Maine. From there, they will have a shot at the Cal Ripken Major/60 World Series being held in North Carolina (Aug 12-19).

Maine State Tournaments for 12U & 10U begin tomorrow as well as play-in tourneys for 9U (Top 8 teams from these ‘mini-tournaments’ go to States). The 12U Teams play in Bowdoinham & 10U Teams play in Farmington. Good luck again to BOTH Fairfield Teams as they represent our District in the State Tournaments.

Fairfield Teams Sweep District 5 Tournaments

Fairfield 12 & Under and 10 & Under All-Star Teams each won their respective Tournaments over this past weekend. Congratulations guys! Thank you to all participating teams and to the host towns of Fairfield and Norridgewock for making these tournaments a great success and a lot of fun. (You can find all Game Results in the ‘Main Menu’ to the left).
Good luck to the Fairfield teams as they move on to the State Tournaments starting on July 11th.
Also, stay tuned for more on all the State Tournaments including the 11U & 9U Teams who start the week after the 12 & 10’s

Info for the 2010 District 5 Tournaments has been added. The 12 & Under Tourney will be hosted by Fairfield & the 10 & Under Tourney will be hosted by Norridgewock. Well, the 2010 Baseball Season is finally here. Info for the 2010 Tournaments are still coming in for this year, but while you're here check out the 2009 Tourney results. There were some very strong teams in District 5 last year. Good luck to all in 2010.
