2005 Playoff Results

THE 2005 CHICORA LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

Game 1 of the CLCS was stopped because of darkness entering the top of the 7th inning on Tuesday. Long's is winning the slug fest 10-9. Long's jumped out to a 7-0 lead after 2 innings but Armstrong came back with 6 in the bottom of the 4th inning. After that, the two teams were back and forth until the game was suspended. When the game resumed on Wednesday, Armstrong pulled off the victory in extra innings. Scott Wilson hit a no out, bases loaded single to left-center field to drive in the game winning run.

Long's took another early lead in the the 1st inning of game 2 of the CLCS, but no lead is safe when Armstrong is hitting to their potential. Armstrong came back little by little, and was leading by 6 runs when the game was suspended because of darkness in the bottom of the 7th inning. Long's was batting with no outs and a runner on first base. When the game resumed, Armstrong was able to hold Long's off to secure the victory.

Armstrong won game 3, to clinch the 2005 Chicora Area Softball League Championship. Armstrong jumped out to a three run lead in the first, then added three more in the second. Long's Market scored a couple in the next few innings as did Armstrong to make it 8-2 in the 6th. Then, Long's came roaring back with 6 in the 6th to tie the game at 8. Finally, Armstrong was able to hold Long's off in the top of the 7th. Then in the bottom of the 7th, Lee Solada led off with a double. After an intentional walk and a bunt, Rick Belles hit a bases loaded single to knock in the game winner.

This is the team's second championship in a row, and its 9th in the past 11 years. Congratulations!

SUMMARIES FOR THE SEMI-FINALS

Long's beat VFW 8-1 in game 1 of their semi-final round. However, VFW came roaring back in game 2 and won 15-2. Long's won 6-4 in game 3. The game was tied entering the 7th inning, then Long's scored 2 runs and VFW did not score any in the bottom of the inning. Long's enters the finals for the first time in around 10 years.

Armstrong beat Chicora Moose 15-2 in game 1 and 17-5 in game two of their semi-final round. Armstrong will advance to the finals for the 11th consecutive year.

SUMMARIES FOR THE FIRST ROUND OF THE PLAYOFFS

In Division A playoff action, The Moose broke out for 8 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to top Toaster's 10-3 in game 1. The Moose won game two 5-1 , so they will advance to the semi-finals. VFW knocked off County Line on game 1 and again in game 2 so they will also advance to the semi-finals.

As for Division B, Longs beat Last Laff in game 1, 10-9 in 10 innings. Game 2 was a tight 5-1 game until the bottom of the 6th when the Last Laff scored 10 runs to win 15-1. Game 3 was decided in the bottom of the 7th when Long's rallied for 4 runs to beat the Last Laff 10-9. Jo De's pulled off a huge upset in game 1 of their series, beating Armstrong 8-6. Armstrong won the 2nd game 11-5. Finally, Armstrong won game 3 and will advance to the semi-finals.

The Last Laff was undefeated going into Sunday, but lost 2 close games at 12 and 1:30 to earn 3rd place at Class C States. The Chicora Moose won their first 2 games, but lost the next 2, finishing in 5th. The County Line won their first game and lost the next 2, finishing in 9th. Konar's Win Chicora Tournament

Konar's took first place in the Annual tournament hosted by the Chicora League played at the Cadogan Fields on July 16th and 17th. They defeated Unwired in the Championship. If anyone has more details about the tournament, please email them to me. Following is the order of finish.

Moose Takes Third At Saxonburg Open

June 19, 2005
The Chicora Moose took third at the First Annual Saxonburg Open. Both losses were at the hands of the eventual champions, Dempsey & Baxter from the Harborcreek League near Erie, PA. Konar's from the Field House League placed second. Konar's held the "King Seat" but were defeated twice by Dempsey & Baxter.

Last Laff Wins Memorial Day Tournament

May 30, 2005
The Last Laff won the Second Annual Memorial Day Weekend Tournament, defeating The Chicora Moose 16-7 in the Championship. Chris Miller, Shawn Bellis, Troy Bellis, and Jim Harmon each had two hits for the winners in the championship game. For The Moose, Darren Knox had a double and a single, and Sluggo Smith belted a homerun.

Earlier in the day, The Moose beat the Last Laff 8-3 to gain the #1 seed for the playoff. Moose pitcher Jim Kusick only gave up 3 runs and and the strong bats of Nathan McCollough (a double and a single), Brent Bell (2 singles), Nick Andreassi (2 singles), and Andy Larimore (1 homerun) helped to provide the run production. For the losers, Mike Fleeger hit 2 doubles, Shawn Bellis hit a double and a single, and Troy Bellis chipped in 2 singles.

Then, the Last Laff edged Toaster's in the Semi-Final game 7-4. Toaster's actually out hit the Last Laff 10-8 but committed 4 errors to the Last Laff's 1. Miller was the lone Last Laff player to manage 2 hits, one of them a 2 run homer in the 5th inning. Dennis "Tomato" McCollough had a double and a single and Jeremy Scherer had 2 singles for Toaster's.

Top hitters in the tournament for The Last Laff were Travis Bellis (.750), Miller (.583, 1 HR), and Shawn Bellis (.500, 2 HR).
