2021 Regional Placer: Kaison Smith, 2nd place

   

"Kaison Smith earned a 2nd place at 220 

In 3A Reginals at Yamhill Carlton.
Going to State this weekend in LaPine.
He is going to avenge his 1 loss at Classics in Redmond in his first match against the No.1 seed.
Kaison attributes his technique's to the great coaching with Coach Sprague and the Cobra family."

Now we must change styles. Greco/Freestyle, International Styles and it's time to reset our goals- sharpen our focus, eliminate training distractions and to realize that becoming the best you can be, requires DEDICATION - DISCIPLINE - HARD WORK - AND  COMMITMENT TO DO WHAT OTHERS WON'T - WHAT OTHERS THINK NOT POSSIBLE AND WHAT OTHERS ONLY DREAM ABOUT.

 

Summer News

Hi to all,

It's been a great Summer of Wrestling.  Cobra Camp Kids are doing exceptionally well. Brycen Dawley, Kent Washington and Josh Neiwert, Spokane, Wa. both won big Tournaments.  Austin Almaguer and Riley Gurr made the podium in Fargo. Our own Cobra All Stars also had a great Summer. Philip Kue got within 1 match of becoming an all American. Losing a match with a very controversial call that would have moved him into the semi finals.  Ryan Zeller, Gavin Jolley and Noah Wachsmuth made the Foreign Exchange Team to Russia.   Chad Kaliluli made an extra ordinary effort to be ready for High School Wrestling this next year. Chad travel with Alfie and I and attended 5 Cobra Summer Camps. Spending 5 weeks with Host Families. He stayed on a Cattle Ranch, made new Friends, played Paint Ball in the woods, went water skiing and tubing at Deer Lake. Chad was a joy to have on this Summer Tour of Champions.

Be sure to attend the 10TH Annual Family BBQ, September 17th at Willamette Park. 3:00 to 8:00 PM to hear their stories. The Picnic Flyer will be coming soon so mark your calendars. It's always a blast! More information will be coming on the BBQ.

The Pre-Season Cobra Boot Camp is August 28-31 at Clackamas High School....Don't mis this important camp! 

Cobra Night workouts/practice starts, September 18. Tentative Parents Meeting Monday September 18th at Gresham High School.

Last bit of News: The Mealey's. Jerry spent the Summer in Alaska working in the fishing industry. Randy and Tami always working on their place. However, Randy, after cutting a cord of wood and eating a big piece of Chocolate Cake suffered a serious heart attack and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for surgery. What a scare it was. Randy was tough and appears to be recovering nicely at home.

Coach Wachsmuth and his Family moved to a beautiful new home in Happy Valley, just 3 blocks from the High School. We're so happy for them.

2017 OSAA CHAMPIONSHIP

   

 

2016 NW REGIONAL'S Battle Ground, Washington

     

Tyler Self won Greco beating a 2 time National Champion.  Jake Rogers pounded his way through a tough bracket to take 2 first places.  Phillip Kue won Greco, Brady DazdeLeon won Greco and was 3rd in Freestyle.  Jerry Mealey took 3rd in both Styles losing only 1 match each style.  Noah Wachsmuth suffered a Shoulder injury which took him  out of the Tournament.  Derrick Blake and Kody Keagler showed great improvement.    All in all a great day for the Cobra Kids.

Clackamas Cobra Kids made a good showing as well.  Carlos Aqguire, Cory Ewry and Brandon Short.  A big Thanks to Mike Short and all the Cobra Dads for all the help with the Coaching.  Coach Wachsmuth and I had our hands full!

8 State Placers.

A very good showing this year.  Jerry Mealey pinned every opponent and Tyler Self was awarded the Tyrone Woods Service Award.  What an honor indeed!  Tyler also signed a scholarship with Western State Colorado University.  WAY TO GO TY!  Ryan Smith and Cord Flynn, Cobra Campers, from Heppner High School both took 2nd place.
