Welcome to another season of Lewiston & Porter Youth Baseball & Softball!

We are looking forward to providing you with a season of fun. All teams in Competitve divisions should have been contacted by now and have begun practicing. If you are in the Starters and up, or Girls Minors and up, and you have not been contacted, now is the time to call Mike Dashineau! There you will look into “Teams/ Rosters” and your division for your coach. Many coaches have an email address on the website where you can contact. If you do not see your players name, contact the Recreation Department.

Tee Ball Teams will not form until probably the first week of May!

Boys Seniors and Girls Seniors will also form in the first week of May.

Uniforms will be given to the Head Coaches before May 2, 2009. Coaches will give out uniforms (including pants, socks, shirt and hat) by order of smallest to biggest on each team. Your uniform will not be a perfect fit!! But it should be pretty close, depending on the coaches sorting ability. If you have an issue with the uniform pants, please talk to your coach, and he/she will straighten it out. Please do not try to exchange pants (or shirts) with the recreation staff. There are far too many of you to attempt an exchange, but we can deal with the sixty-five coaches more effectively!

As many of you already know, parking is an issue at Pletcher Road Park. The main problem is that everybody tries to jam into one lot. I can assure you, as long as we are considerate of one another, we will all have spots open to us, as long as we are willing to walk a few extra steps! All parents will recieve a Park map with their game schedule this week (May 4-9)! Please note where you are supposed to park when you are at a certain field.

There is No Parking on Pletcher Road! Parking there is asking for a ticket. However, as the map shows, there is ample parking for each diamond. The access road to the Water Pollution Control Center has parking on both sides of the street for the Red and Green Diamonds. The Senior Center also has ample parking. We have also installed new lots in right field on the Green Diamond and left field at the red diamond.

The inner parking in the middle of the park is reserved for elderly, handicapped, and emergency parking. The long strip of parking is reserved for the Tee Ball parking and parking for the Blue Diamond.

Coaches can drop off there equipment at the concession stand and Recreation Employees will deliver their equipment to whichever field they are on. Seniors and Handicap individuals who have trouble walking over uneven terrain should also request a ride in the golf cart!

Also enclosed in your next packet is a short guide to dates to remember as a Baseball/ Softball Mom or Dad. Some of the times have not yet been determined. Game and Practice Schedules are available at our website in case you misplaced your schedule.

The first date to think about is Saturday, May 2. That is Opening Day, and our parade.

Please have your child ready to go in their full baseball uniform at 11:45am at Lewiston Red Brick School. From there, we will march to Academy Park, beginning at around noon. All uniform alterations and exchanges must be done before the parade, not at the parade.

WE WILL NOT HAVE PICTURE DAY THIS YEAR ON OPENING DAY!!!

Picture day will be held on __________________, at Pletcher Road Park, with times to be determined.

This year, we will not have games in any divisions. In its place, we will have an Opening Day Celebration to reopen Academy Park and give you a chance to meet the League and Town Officials that make this program work. For the kids, we will have plenty of entertainment in the form of inflatable obstacle courses, Buster Bison, and other fun guests. There will also be food vendors on site. This year, each player in uniform will recieve one ticket for a free hot dog at the parade. We hope you will set aside a few hours on this Saturday to devote to the fun we have planned. We hope to make this a fun event for all, instead of the usual stress of Opening Day.

Rainouts are a part and problem with the sport of Baseball. On rainy days, the Recreation Department will decide at 4:45PM if the game will be played or not. If the weather is not cooperating at 4:45, we will cancel, instead of waiting to see if the weather breaks. On the same token, if it is beautiful out at 4:45, the game will be considered on. After 4:45, it is up to the on-field personnel to call a game or play it.

You will be contacted on the day of a rainout by your head coach. The Head Coach will be notified on the day of a rainout by automated phone call and email. Parents can also check our website:

www.lewportsports.com
www.leaguelineup.com/lewistonbaseball

Once the games are canceled, our website will be updated. Please do NOT call Town Hall. With 650 participants in the league, you will find it nearly impossible to get in touch with me on rainy days and the volume of calls will just lead to phone congestion at Town Hall. If you need to make a call, please call your Head Coach or check the website.

Good Luck in your season this year and remember to have fun at all times!!
