Middle GA Knights Preview
The Warriors become the Knights this season and it is fitting considering the noble tradition of Middle Georgia Baseball.
Over the last 30 years the Warriors have won 4 NJCAA National Championships, 3 National Runner-ups, 2 Third place
finishes, 1 fourth, 3 sixth and a seventh place national finish. The Warriors have also won 17 GJCAA titles and 23 Region
XVII Championships. They hope to add another as the Knights.
The Warriors fell 1 game short of another trip to Grand Junction in 2012, but have worked hard this off season to put them
in a position for a return trip. If the Middle Georgia State College Knights are to make their 1st trip to the Alpine World
Series it will take the efforts of 18 new faces. The Knights only return four regulars from the 2012 squad. That being said,
this is nothing new for the Middle Georgia squad, who commonly reloads each year for a run at a National Championship. Pitching: Pitching will be the stronghold for the Warriors with the return of 3 quality arms from last year’s team. Joseph Boatright (8-1; 2.20 ERA) and Alex Roberts (8-2 ; 3.13 ERA) return in the rotation and Eric Alonzo (3-0; 4.45 ERA) will be a go to guy as the season gets under way.
Looking to round out the rotation are Javier Reynoso (transfer Coastal Carolina) and Freshmen Ryan Lawlor (Calvary Day H.S.). Tyler Graham (Hill Grove H.S.) had a great fall and will see plenty of action as a starter as will Conner Alford (Tattnall H.S.). Caleb Weaver (Westfield H.S.) will see action out of the pen and as a left handed specialist if the situations call for him. Justin Flores ( Union Grove H.S.) will be called upon to serve several roles as a set up man, long relief and closing from time to time. Late innings should be in very capable hands as Blake Shouse and Coastal Carolina transfer Adam Eggnatz will get a bulk of the save opportunities.
Catching: The catching duties should be in solid hands as three freshmen will see duty at any given time. Valdosta State
transfer Drew Kelley (Bainbridge H.S.) will get a majority of the starts and should hit in the middle of the Warriors line-up.
Kelley will also see some time at first base when not catching in order to keep his bat in the game. Cole Thompson
(Jones County H.S.) and Tyler Bowers (Northgate H.S.) both possess two of the strongest arms on the team and should
be able to shutdown the running game.
Outfield: Leading a talented group of outfielders will be Coastal Carolina transfer Adam Eggnatz in centerfield. Adam
possesses a strong arm with great outfield skills and could bat in the leadoff or back side of the batting order. Eggnatz has
great speed and should be a treat on the bases to steal at any time. Jake Wright (Eastside H.S.) should anchor right field
and will hit in the middle of the lineup. He is another outfielder with a strong arm and very good speed. Left field could
be Cody Lanford (Jones County H.S.) or Drew Taylor (Pierce County H.S.). Dusty Jones (Bleckley County H.S.) can
play all the outfield positions and will be used on the base paths and defensively at times.
Infield: The Knights have a luxury in the infield because any number of infielders can play all the infield positions. 2012 All
Conference shortstop Blake Shouse (.349 BA; 35 RBI’s) could see action at third base and short this season. Shouse
will more than likely hit out of the second hole as he did for most of the 2012 season. The Knights are also counting on him
to make an impact on the mound. Auburn University transfer Kent Rollins will see action at short or second. Rollins
possesses sure hands and a great arm. Rollins will hit somewhere in the bottom of the order.
Cody Lanford could see action at second base or any outfield spot. Lanford projects to be the Knights lead-off batter and
will play Center field when Eggnatz is on the mound. Red shirt Freshman Will Jones (Crisp County H.S.) will prove a
valuable asset for the Knights as he can play any of the infield positions and will depending on when Shouse and Eggnatz
are pitching.
Summary: Pitching should anchor the Knights early in the season until the offense finds their identity . The Knights are
capable of putting up some great numbers this spring if all goes well. They will need to find themselves early with the likes
of Chipola, Walters State, and Western Nevada on the schedule. The Knights have a fan friendly home schedule with
17 home dates at Stuckey Field. The conference may be the most balanced it has been in quite some time. Conference
foes Georgia Perimeter, Gordon, and Darton all posted excellent records in 2012 and ABAC, Andrew, and West Georgia
have improved over the off season. South Georgia and East Georgia are always strong and this season should provide some great baseball.
Middle Georgia Baseball will open thier season with the first home game will this Friday (2/8/13) @ Stuckey Field vs Southern Union. First Game will start @ 2,Game 2 will follow.

The Jaguars (1-0) went down 1-0 to the Wolves (0-1) to start the game in the first inning, but the Jaguars took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning and never let down.

The Jaguars wasted no time in their first at bat of the 2015 season, when newcomer Clint Hardy saw one pitch as a Jaguar and sent it into left field for a leadoff single.
Junior-transfer Nick Rau followed suite of Newberry and tripled to the right-center gap to plate Hardy, before CJ Reed lined one to center field for a 2-1 swing. In the bottom of the second, GRU's Hardy kept it going with a two-RBI single after Connor Gilbert and Cole Thompson lead off the inning with back-to-back singles for a 4-1 lead.

Brown (1-0) got the win in six innings pitched. He faced 22 batters and struck out one, while allowing one run on six hits in his sophomore debut on the mound.
GRU used a leadoff triple from Drew Taylor (PCHS 2011) to start the bottom of the third and Christopher Michaels boosted the lead to 5-1 when he doubled to left to score Taylor. Brown found his way out of another jam in the sixth, when Newberry got runners to the corners again. Brandan Sheridan rolled over to GRU second baseman Nick Rau. NEWBERRY, S.C. – For second-consecutive days, the Jaguar Baseball team went down in the first inning to the Newberry Wolves, but this time, they were unable to achieve the comeback win as they fell 4-1 in non-conference action Sunday afternoon.
The Jaguars (1-1) won the season opener against Newberry (1-1) on Saturday, Jan. 31, but struggled against a left-handed veteran pitcher as the Wolves avenged the loss in their home park. Each team registered six hits apiece, but a two-run homer made the difference. GRU Outlasts Erskine 8-7 In Extra Innings
AUGUSTA, Ga. – In the bottom of the 11th inning down 7-5, juniors Hunter Boose and Connor Gilbert stroked back-to-back singles to the outfield to give the GRU Augusta Jaguars an 8-7 victory in walk-off fashion at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
The two teams met earlier in the year, with the Flying Fleet winning 8-2 in Due West, S.C., on Feb. 10. The Jags (7-10) started off strong on offense and defense, with Jaguar starter David Hagelston striking out his first two batters and scoring two during their first at bat. CJ Reed reached first on a single to left field and scored on Clint Hardy's triple to the center field wall. Drew Taylor (PCHS 2012) brought Hardy in, earning his 15th RBI of the season.
The Flying Fleet scored in the top of the third on a couple of base hits to left field and tied the game at 2-all in the top of the fourth off four-straight hits. They took the lead in the seventh inning on a homerun by junior Sam Cothran, but the Jags got a little going when Andrew Gomez reached on an error.
The speedy Bradley Dennis came in to pinch run, stealing second, moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kevin Dodson, and scoring on a wild pitch. Hagelston pitched 7.0 innings in the start and struck out two, before Will Robertson came in to record 3.0 innings of work.
The Fleet went ahead again on a two RBI homerun by Zack Smith, the first batter of the game to face Will Robertson, taking a 5-3 lead in the eighth. Again, the Jags fought back with Cole Thompson and Kevin Dodson both getting RBI to tie the game at 5-5.
Robertson closed out the top of the ninth, sitting the batters down in order. Although Taylor reached base for the second time of the game, the Jags weren't able to get anyone home, and the game went into extra innings.
The Jags brought in Adam Grice to pitch in the 11th, and the Fleet had a nice inning, scoring two off three base hits and a hit by pitch to take the lead for the third time, before David Bermudez came in to pitch.
In their last at bat, Clint Hardy was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the 11th. Drew Taylor had a base hit, and Nick Rau walked to load the bases. Walk-Off Single Wills Jags to 10-9 Win In Extra Innings
Augusta, Ga. - The Jaguars hosted their first Peach Belt Conference series of the season and won their third-consecutive game in 11 innings on senior Nate Crown's RBI-single up the middle to beat Lander 10-9 in a slugfest at Lake Olmstead Stadium Saturday night.
For the second time this week, the GRU Augusta Jaguars (8-10, 3-4 PBC) played an exciting 11-inning game. The conference-series opener against Lander University (10-13, 3-10 PBC) ended in a victory for the Jags led offensively by senior Kevin Dodson and juniors Hunter Boose and Cole Thompson who all went 3-5. It was all capped by Crown's bases loaded, base hit up the middle to score one for the 10-9 walk off.
Sophomore righty Tristan Jones got his third start of the season for the Jaguars. He pitched 5.1 innings, striking out two while giving up five hits for four runs (one earned) before being relieved by sophomore right-hander, Will Robertson in the sixth inning. Frank Warren took over in the ninth and closed out the game to get the win.
In the first at bat for GRU, CJ Reed (2-5) drew a walk and quickly moved to third on Clint Hardy's double down the third baseline, his fourth double of the season. Nick Rau (1-5) brought his RBI total to 14 when he brought both home after squeezing a hit between third and shortstop.
The Jags put up two more in the second inning when Thompson and Dodson both hit doubles. The Lander Bearcats showed up in the third, posting three hits and a couple of walks to score four and tie the game.
Thompson came to the plate for the second time in the fourth inning and only saw one pitch - hitting a bomb over the left-field wall for his first homerun of the season to give the Jaguars the lead again.
Clint Hardy (2-4) reached base in the fifth and stole second. After reaching third, Hardy broke for home and slid under the bat of Hunter Boose (3-6) – who knocked him with an RBI-single to left. Lander threatened in the sixth inning. A hit and a walk with one out brought Will Robertson to the mound for GRU. Robertson controlled the game and dealt two strikeouts to the Bearcats to escape the inning.
The Jags were tough defensively in the seventh. Nick Rau put out the first two batters, and although the next walked, Cole Thompson made him pay for trying to steal second, catching his sixth runner of the season. Offensively in the seventh, the bats stayed hot for GRU with Drew Taylor (PCHS 2012) (1-6), Boose, Thompson, and Blue Sanderson (1-2) all reaching base on hits, while Rau and Connor Gilbert (1-4) reached on walks. The Jags crossed the plate three more times, going up 9-4.
The Bearcats brought in a run in the eighth inning, and four runs, including an in-park three RBI homerun, to tie the game at nine in the ninth. Hardy suffered a wrist injury at the centerfield wall on a controversial dropped catch off the homer. Neither team was able to do anything else until the 11th inning, when GRU had bases loaded with no outs. Crown clenched the game with his hit up the middle for the walk off single.
The series concludes tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

Jags Split Double Feature at Columbus State
COLOUMBUS, GA - Led by homers off the bats of Drew Taylor (PCHS 2012) and Clint Hardy, the Jaguars split the Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Columbus State, dropping game one 6-3 and taking the second game 7-5 on Saturday afternoon on the road.
The scheduled single game on Friday with the Cougars was lost due to rain, so the doubleheader decided the series Saturday. GRU Augusta (15-24, 8-15 PBC) found life early in game one when Clint Hardy (1-3; RBI) put the Jags on the board first, smacking the first pitch thrown to him over the center field wall for his sixth homerun of the season.
Right-handed junior David Bermudez started his third game of the season for GRU. Bermudez only allowed two hits and one run in 2.2 innings of work, before Frank Warren and Tristan Jones relieved.
In the third inning, Nick Rau (1-3; RBI) came to bat with bases loaded and plated one on a single to shortstop, while a second scored on an error, giving the Jags a 3-0 lead.
With two outs and bases loaded in the third inning, the Jags turned to junior lefty Frank Warren. Warren got out of the inning safely, but found himself in a hole in the fourth after three base hits, two on back-to-back bunts, to load the bases. After striking out the next batter, a dropped pop-up allowed two Cougars to come home, tying the game at three.
Warren pitched 3.0 innings, striking out two and giving up four runs (two earned) on five hits.
The Cougars (32-12; 15-11 PBC) scored one more in the sixth inning, and with two outs and a runner on first, the Jags brought Tristan Jones to the mound. The right-handed sophomore's first pitch to McClellan went over the left-center field wall to score two, giving the Cougars a 6-3 lead that would eventually win the game.
In game two, junior lefty Matthew Kuhlenberg (3-4) took the mound for his eighth start of the season. The Cougars jumped out to a quick two-run lead in the first inning, but the Jags battled back with two of their own in the top of the second.
Drew Taylor (2-4; three-RBI) slapped a single to right field and scored on an error, before Nate Crown (1-1; RBI) earned his ninth RBI of the season, scoring Rau. On the first pitch of the second inning, Manos sailed one over the right-field fence to put the Cougars back in the lead, but not for long.
Taylor knocked a three-RBI bomb over the right-center field wall in the third inning, giving the Jags a 5-3 lead. Manos came back to the plate in the fourth and hit his second homer of the game, but the Jags would get the run back off of a single by Rau (1-4; RBI) to score Taylor in the fifth.
The fifth inning also brought right-handed sophomore Tyler Brown to the mound. He struck out three and allowed three hits and a single run, which came in the seventh inning.
The Jags (15-24; 8-15 PBC) brought their final run across in the eighth on three walks and a hit-by-pitch. Right-handed reliever Adam Grice closed out the game, pitching two innings with two hits and striking out two, holding onto the 7-5 lead for the Jaguar win.

SENIOR PASSES TORCH TO FRESHMAN
Augusta State University senior Drew Taylor (PCHS 2012) passes the torch of PCHS baseball to University of North Georgia freshman Kyler Allen (PCHS 2015) during a recent outing of the Peach Belt Conference baseball playoffs.
PCHS had several players in the collegiate ranks this year and at some point during the season, one former teammate had to match up against another. Besides Taylor and Allen, other players representing PCHS were Jayk Graham, senior at Valdosta State University (PCHS 2011) as well as Zack Goble and Stetson Smith (PCHS 2015) who are both playing for Armstrong State University in Savannah.
Congratulations to Jayk and Drew for representing PCHS and our community during their collegiate years and we wish them the best as they begin their new journey in life.
