SNACK BAR VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTIONS

As part of the RBBA Managers duties, they are to provide Snack Bar coverage on 2 or 3 separate days, by enlisting their parents help. Your time will cover no more than 5 hours per day. We suggest 2 to 2 1/2 hour shifts per "snack bar team". (At least 1 adult per shift)

A Snack Bar calendar will be posted on this web site and inside the rear doors of the Snack Bar on the bulletin board to the right, with the designated teams coverages. Make sure you check the printed calendar or the web site for your team's dates and times.

Managers are fully responsible for their team coverage. Avoid problems... please choose those parents that are interested and will enjoy working the snack bar. Again, at least 1 adult per shift.

Parents, please use caution when selecting your younger helpers, and how many you bring with you.
Remember, there is boiling water along with other hot items in the snack bar. For safety reasons please limit the number of younger helpers you bring with you.

Please do no allow children to climb or sit on the counters. Please do not allow them to climb up on the freezers or coolers.

Punctuality is very important. Remember, volunteers are relieving other volunteers. If you have not worked the snack bar before you should arrive about 10 minutes early so you can be shown the routine. (Some instructions will be posted)

Snack bar volunteers should check the Weather Line at 240-314-5055 on inclement days before reporting.
If it states the fields are open, then so is the snack bar.

Thank you all, in advance, for all of your help and support. It's what makes the system work.

The Snack Bar has been in existence since 1969. Before the current facility was built RBBA founding member Pat Kinder had developed a portable canteen type service where she and other RBBA volunteers would wheel mobile carts of sodas-on-ice and small items to each field. Snack Bar Duty before 1969 was a grueling task performed seven days a week throughout each baseball season.

Thanks to the determination and insight of Pat Kinder and those RBBA Volunteers in the 1960's our 2008 Snack Bar is the centerpiece of Dogwood Park. A place for players, parents and fans to purchase a variety of quick food items. Its also a meeting place before and after games where managers, coaches and players mingle, and talk of the days games.

According to policy, RBBA Managers assign specific Parent Volunteers to operate the Snack Bar during assigned shifts. Snack Bar Duty has become very popular. Parents enjoy the interaction between themselves and their children in a store type of environment. Parents also praise Snack Bar Duty as a positive learning experience that allows children their first exposure to business teamwork and money handling.
