Storm Cheer Coach Robyn Myers Moore has been involved with cheerleading at the local, state and national levels for 30 years, first as a cheerleader at Essex High School, and then as a coach at Essex High School, Harrison High School in West Lafayette, Indiana, Champlain College, Saint Michael’s College and the University of Vermont.
In addition, Robyn serves as an advisory member on the Vermont Principals’ Association Cheerleading Committee, is the Vermont State Cheerleading Championships meet director, is an American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors national cheerleading coach safety certifier, and served on the National Federation of State High School Associations’ cheerleading and dance Spirit Rules Committee.
She is also a nationally certified cheerleading competition judge. Robyn lives in Essex, Vermont with her husband Scott. She is employed by IBM as a financial analyst.
From 2001 though 2004, Vermont Ice Storm Football worked hard to represent the state of Vermont both on and off the field. But there was more that could be done to enhance the home field advantage and the enjoyment of the fans. As such, in the spring of 2005, Russ Humphrey approached Robyn Myers Moore to create a top notch cheerleading program that would engage the fans at games and lend support to the community organizations the Ice Storm supports.
That first summer, a dedicated team of 23 men and women jumped, tumbled and stunted into the hearts of the fans and the community. By the next year the team had grown to 30 members and 2007 saw a squad of 34. Ever since, Storm Cheer has fielded teams of 30 to 40 members. Along with our dedicated fans, the cheer team has helped to make the Ice Storm home field a feared and revered place to play football.
Although the football team took a short hiatus in the summer of 2011, the members of Storm Cheer made public appearances at events such as the Essex Memorial Day Parade, the Vermont Summer Special Olympics and the Camp Exclamation Point Kickball Tournament.
With the football team back in action, Storm Cheer is looking forward to a great year in 2012.
None of this would be possible without the support of our AMAZING sponsors. Thank you to Green Mountain Gymnastics, who provides an outstanding, indoor practice facility for Ice Storm Cheer. And thank you as well to Pool World for sponsoring our first set of uniforms. We could not have done this without you.
Anyone interesting in trying out for the cheer team should contact Robyn at 802-878-4798 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org . Tryouts are held each year in March.
