POST 25 BLANKS NORTH BRUNSWICK 6-0
Post 25 opened their 2004 season with a 6-0 shutout against North Brunswick at Michelin Field.
The team was impressive in every phase of the game, as they combined timely hitting, great pitching, and flawless defense to gain the win.
Steve "Steve-O" Curry was awesome on the mound for Post 25. Curry tossed a complete game, 4 hit shutout, while notching 12 K's and allowing only 2 walks. He was in complete control throughout the game as he stifled the North Brunswick batters the whole game.
Offensively, Curry would get plenty of support from the Post 25's bats as the team came out swinging. In the bottom of the 1st inning, leadoff batter Anthony "Double A" Addone, (2-2) singled, and promptly stole 2nd base. Travis "Trav" Retzlaff walked. That brought up Willie "Big Willie" Beard,(2-2, HR, 3 RBI) who launched a cruise missile over the fence into the trees for a 3 run HR to make the score 3-0.
In the 2nd frame, Jeff "Doc" Dougherty, (2-2, 1 RBI), started the inning off with a hard hit single. Addone stroked a base hit up the middle, and Greg "Gil" Kammerer worked out a base on balls to load the bases. John "Scoop" Berner, (1-2, 2 RBI), promptly smacked a liner to left field to score 2 more runs and make the score 5-0 for the home team.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Beard ripped a single up the middle, advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch, and was driven home on Dougherty's 2nd hit of the game to make the score 6-0.
John "Kess" Keseley, (1-1) singled in the 5th inning, as Post 25 finished with 8 base hits in their opener.
Defensively the team played errorless baseball. Dougherty led the way at 3rd base snaring 2 hard hit liners and turning the second into a double play when he fired to Keseley at 1st base to double off a North Brunswick runner. Mike "Bazooka" Doros made a tremendous play in the top of the 6th inning, when he rifled a strike from the right field corner to Garrett "G" Andren at 2nd base to cut a NB batter down.
All in all it was a great "TEAM EFFORT" as every player on the squad contributed to the victory. Way to go guys!!!

POST 25 CLUBS PERTH AMBOY 8-2
Milltown Post 25 rebounded in a big way vs Perth Amboy, as the team once again combined big bats, tough pitching, and steady defense to score a 8-2 victory at Michelin Field. Post 25 wasted no time getting started as Greg "Gil" Kammerer(2-4, 2 R, 1 SB), lined a single to left field and stole 2nd base. Willie "Big Willie" Beard(3-4, HR, 3RBI), followed with a line drive off the fence in right center to score Kammerer. Travis "Trav" Retzlaff(2-3, 2R), followed with another shot off the fence. In the 3rd inning Post 25 bats got hot, Anthony "Double A" Addone(1-4, double), ripped a double to right center. Kammerer followed with a base hit, as Addone was erased on runner interference. Beard then blasted his 2nd HR of the year to make the score 3-0. Retzlaff walked, Jeff "Doc" Dougherty(1-2), laced a line drive single to put runners on the corners, thanks to Retzlaff's hard, head first slide into 3rd base. Bryan "B" May(1-2, 1 RBI), lofted a single to score Trav for a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the 5th inning another rally ensued as Beard belted a single up the middle. Retzlaff singled. Mike "Bazooka" Doros(1-1, HR, 3RBI), then came up and Mashed a blast, high and far over the left center field fence for a 3 run HR. Mike Hohman (1-1), followed with a single but was caught in a rundown between 1st and 2nd base. Garrett "G" Andren (1-2, double, 1 RS), then had a great at bat as he fouled off a half a dozen pitches before roping a double to left field. Mark Fahy(1-1), followed with a single. Mike "Leathermetal" Leatherwood, drove home the final run with a sac fly to score Andren to make the score 8-2.
On the mound making his first start was Dan "The Beast" Savage, Savage hurled 5 strong innings scattering 3 hits and allowing only 2 unearned runs with 2 K's. Leatherwood picked up his first save of the season tossing a perfect final 2 frames to seal the win.
Defensively the team had a good game, with only a couple of lapses which the teams big bats were able to overcome. That is what a "TEAM" is supposed to be about, nobody or no team is perfect, so when something negative happens other guys are there to do something positive to pick each other up. Great job guys as Post 25 evens their record at 2-2!!!

POST 25 COMES BACK OVER JFK WHITE 6-5
Post 25 got back on the winning track as the team staged a late inning comeback and prevailed in 9 innings over a hungry JFK White team 6-5. Post 25 wasted little time jumping to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning, with 2 outs Willie "Big Willie" Beard,(2-3, 2b), singled. That brought up Travis "Trav" Retzlaff,(3-5, 2RBI) who belted a deep drive over the centerfield fence for the lead. The score remained 2-0 until the 6th inning as the Post 25 bat's, despite hitting the ball well, could not find the holes as they could manage only a single by Jeff "Doc" Dougherty(1-3, 1RS), in the 2nd inning, and a double by Beard. On the mound for Post 25 Dan "The Beast" Savage had been cruising along thru the first 5 innnings shutting down the JFK Batters on 2 hits. In the top of the 6th inning JFK staged a rally scoring 5 runs, Savage was relieved by Anthony "Double A" Addone (1-5,HR,RBI), and eventually Beard was brought in to end the rally. Post 25 fought back in the bottom of the 6th as John "Scoop" Berner (1-5, 2RS) singled, Dougherty walked, Savage,(1-3, RBI), moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd on a groundout. Mark Fahy ripped a hard hit ball to 3rd base to drive in Berner, Dougherty also scored as the 3rd baseman mistakenly thru wildly to 2nd base allowing Post 25's 4th run to score, making the game 5-4. In a do or die situation the team faced a 5-4 deficit coming up in the home 7th, that changed quickly as Addone blasted his 1st HR of the season to tie the game at 5-5. Post 25 nearly won the game after loading the bases, however Beard was called out at the plate for barrelling over the JFK catcher to end the inning and send the contest into extra innings. Beard,(3.1 inn, 8K's) was lights out pitching in relief giving the squad a chance to regroup. In the bottom of the 9th inning Post 25 seized the opportunity as Retzlaff singled, but was erased trying to steal 2nd for the 2nd out. Then Berner reached on a miscue by JFK, Mike "Bazooka" Doros (3BB, 1HBP) was hit by a pitch, Dougherty also was hit by a pitch to load the bases, setting the stage for Savage who cracked a hard single that the JFK 3rd baseman could not handle to score Berner with the winning run. The team played steady defense with Greg "Gil" Kammerer behind the plate, and Berner and Dougherty making excellent plays in the field. The comeback win was sweet for Post 25, as the team heads into the home stretch of the season and some tough opponents in the upcoming games.

POST 25 TRIUMPHS OVER WOODBRIDGE 2-1
Post 25 got back on the winning side with a 2-1 triumph over Woodbridge at Michelin Field. The team bounced back after a couple of tough games where they played well enough to win but recieved no breaks. Against Woodbridge the team fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first, but refused to give up. In the bottom of the 2nd frame John "Scoop" Berner(1-2,1RS,SB), led off with a single to left field, stole 2nd, and advanced to 3rd on a passed ball. Matt "Jewels" Kijula (2RBI) brought Berner home to knot the score at 1-1. In the 3rd inning Willie "Big Willie" Beard(3-3,SB), singled off the fence for his second hit but was stranded at first base. Then in the bottom of the 4th inning Berner led off with a walk, Garrett "G" Andren(1-3,1RS,2SB)replaced Berner on a fielders choice, then promptly stole 2nd and 3rd base. That brought up Kijula, who drove a sacrifice fly to deep center to score Andren with what proved to be the winning run. Beard added another hit in the 5th inning and Andren lined a single in the 6th, but neither would score. Mark Fahy started on the mound for Post 25 and did a fine job (3 IP, 1R, 2K's), as he held Woodbridge to 3 hits. Kijula came on in relief in the bottom of the 4th and picked up the win, as he mowed down Woodbrige batters the final 4 innings, allowing only 1 hit, while striking out 3 batters. Defensively the team played well with Berner playing well at SS, and Greg "Gil" Kammerer doing an excellent job behind the dish. The squad is heading into the final week of the season with slim playoff hopes, but would like to finish out the season on an upbeat note with some victories. Great job guys! The team has been victimized in a number of close games this season, but shows their resilience as they continue to give 110% effort.
