May 16, 2005  --   Bert and Ernies softball is simple. We want to compete with any team, but we gotta have fun doing it or it just aint worth it. It's a balance between having fun yet being competitive-a balance we have maintained since we put the team together 5 years ago. For 5 or 6 years, half of our current team played on another team (under a different name). It was a team that had the potential to be pretty good but that potential was wasted on bad chemistry and the fantasy that ASA softball is somehow like MLB. The ultra intensity was not a good match for us, so we parted company and started a new team with a new sponsor-Bert and Ernies (of Helena). The other half of the new team consisted of players that could be competitive on the field but equally as important-enjoy the game regardless of the outcome. Hey, we want to win, and we will play hard to win, but ultimately it isn't worth it if we walk away pissy. We have a wide range of players,
which any team we've played will attest to. We also have what is commonly referred to as the Dominican Connection. Four of our players have played professional baseball (minors). Three of them are from the Dominican Republic and one from Venezuela. They get a lot of attention, but they are as humble as they come. The rest of us have a wide range of experience with baseball and softball for the last 20-30 years. If you've ever played us or seen us play, you'll know us. We have more fun on the field than most teams, and we don't want it any other way. If you're walking by a field and hear English, Spanish, and way to much laughing and hacking going on-its Bert and Ernies. Stop by and say hey.
