In Disc Golf a MULLIGAN is a free-do over shot we use to correct a really bad shot we would like to take back. We’ve all had a shot that really sucked and wished we could take a mulligan. It happens to everybody. But if you play by the rules mulligans are not allowed. You have to take your medicine like a big boy and play it where it lies or take a penalty stroke for that OB.

Have you ever played in a tournament and when the last round was over, you looked at your scorecard and thought “I really messed up on a couple of holes”. As you think about those bad shots you knew what you did wrong and wished you could do them over or sneaked in a mulligan. SORRY CHARLIE!! You can’t use mulligans in tournaments and once the scorecard is turned in, it’s game over, you have to live with the game you played and hope you do better next time.

Disc Golf and life are very similar in some ways. Just like our disc golf game, in life we make bad choices and mess things up. Or we just simply do something we know we shouldn’t have. It’s like trying for the 100 foot birdie putt and ending up in pond when we knew we should have laid up and went for par. Everybody is going to mess up in life and do something wrong, none of us are perfect even if we think we are. The Bible refers to this in Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God”. When this game of life is over we must turn in our scorecard Hebrews 9:27 “And it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement”. The big difference in Disc Golf and life is the consequences at the end. If we have a bad Disc Golf game, no big deal it’s just a game. In life, it’s a eternal consequence Romans 6:23 “..The wages of sin is death”. This refers to a spiritual death, which means you spend eternity separated from God in Hell.

WAIT! Don’t get all bummed out and upset because I mentioned Hell!
You get to use your MULLIGAN! It’s the ultimate mulligan. Unlike disc golf, in life you get a free mulligan and it’s in life's rule book, The Bible. That’s right, you get a second chance, a do over, a freebie, and the prize is an awesome one. It’s God’s gift to you, Romans 6:23 “But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus our Lord.”
You may be asking “Why would God give me a mulligan?”. Here’s why, HE LOVES YOU! It’s that simple God Loves You and he’s already done what needs to be done to give you another chance at getting it right. Out of Love for you, Jesus, God’s Son, willingly died on the cross so you could be forgiven of your sins and spend eternity in Heaven. John 3:16 “ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Here’s how you use your free mulligan from God. It’s easy, all you have to do is talk to him and tell him you want to use it. That’s it, just ask for it, confess it and believe it. Romans 10:13, 10:9-10 “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved” “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart of man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”

So what are you waiting on? Are you just going to live with those bad shots? Or are you gonna use your Mulligan?

Chris used his Mulligan! It's your turn!

The Legend of the Dogwood Tree
The Memphis Dogwood Classic Tournament is coming up in May. I thought I would post this.

The four white pedals are cross-shaped, which are said to represent the four corners of the cross, each bearing a rusty indentation as of a nail; the red stamens of the flower, represents Jesus' crown of thorns; and the clustered red fruit represent his blood.
