Dear 6th Grade Boys Players and Parents
Thank you for your interest in GCAA travel basketball. On Monday October 5th, a try out was held and ratings were done by 2 Island Garden youth AAU
coaches and a basketball evaluator. None of the evaluators had a
child in the 6th grade. The average ratings of the 3 evaluators
were calculated and teams were formed based upon those ratings. The first
portion of the try out included drills/skills while the second portion
included scrimmages.
Given the number of players attending the try out, our limited court time
and the competitive nature of the Island Garden league we will play in, we
could not take every player. Try outs are not an exact science but the
utilization of 3 independent evaluators certainly helped in our efforts to
make the try out fair and transparent. Within GCAA travel basketball, there is a new try out every year and there is always movement from one team to another, subject to a player's performance at a try out.
For those players not making a team, GCAA has a great intramural program and we would encourage all to participate in that intramural program.
