Do You Hold the Rope?
Hold the Rope. An Emphasis on Teamwork.
Every year, a college wins the NCAA title. Every year, a PONY teams wins the Nationals. Every year, the best high school team in each Division wins the state title. All of these teams have one thing in common, and contrary to popular belief, talented athletes was not always the answer. No matter how tough it became throughout the season they all did one thing¦ They held the Rope.
What is holding the Rope?
Imagine that you are hanging off the side of a cliff with a drop of 20,000 feet. The only thing between you and a fall is a rope, with the person of your choice at the other end. Who has the guts to pull you to safety? Who will Hold the Rope? Now, the next time your team is together, look around and ask yourself, whom could I trust to Hold the Rope? Then look at yourself and ask the same question, who would I hold the rope for? When you can look at every member of your team and say they all would hold the rope, including yourself, it's then that you and your team will be destined to win many games.
No matter what sport you play, in order to win, you have to be committed to your team. If you are supposed to run sprints during practice, do it well. If you have to practice, do it well, don't just go through the motions, because then you are wasting not only your time but also everyone else’s time.
Once you start letting up at practice, or missing your workouts, not only have you hurt yourself, you have hurt the team because you didn't hold the rope. When you need to take your time to eat right, sleep well, or rehab, do it so that you can hold the rope when your team needs you.
You don't have to be the best on the field to win the game! You have to believe in yourself and the team. Believe in the rope.
Remember this is a team sport, everyone must be holding the fibers.
Don't let your team down. Don't let yourself down.
